Saturday February 26th 2011

Beautiful cool morning, wind is blowing and it looks like a great day.  We don’t have anything planned for today, Linda is letting me read one of her books by John Grisham called “The Last Juror”.  So far it is really good. Some parts are really funny.  I have been sitting outside reading with Sparky and I kind of doze once in awhile but Sparky has really been good about staying around.

Our neighbors from Quebec, Andre and Norlita, are leaving this morning to go down around Brownsville.  They have kids and grandkids with them.  They just flew in yesterday and I would say they are from Quebec also.  Norlita is a Phillipino and she speaks five languages!!

100_2388

Andre and Norlita are the ones that drove their motorhome from Quebec to here last year then drove on to Acapulco and back again.   I don’t think I would want to drive through Mexico but they didn’t seem to have any trouble.  She speaks some Spanish and I guess it was enough to get them through the worst of the language barrier.

I took a picture of a tree this morning, not sure if it is a Mesquite Tree or not but they seem to have all budded at the same time…

100_2386

It has little yellow flowers or buds on it and if I’m not mistaken last week it was bare!  Maybe Spring is here in the Valley!!

Our other neighbors from Illinois, Will and Nancy left about noon.  I sat over there and talked to him for about an hour.  He is a mobile home/RV repairman.  He has had his own business for 30 years.  They are headed for Donna for about a week before heading to San Antonio then on home.

Linda fixed us a great supper….we bought a package of round steak, I think, and she put it in the crock pot and cooked it for about eight hours.  I pealed a couple potatoes and let them cook in with the meat for a couple hours. OHHH so good!!  Sounds like Mr. Food!  The steaks were from Wal Mart and good thing they cooked for eight hours, they were tender when they were done and I don’t think they would have been tender if grilled out.

We went to the DQ with Dale and Velda for a little “treat”.  We always have a good time with Dale and Velda, they are good Christian people.

Well, should I put another picture of Sparky in???  OK I will..

100_2390

He is busy with a rawhide chew .  He really likes his new bed.  We don’t have a lot of room in here for it and it is very slippery.  It is made from recycled water bottles and Sparky loves to play with empty water bottles, I think it is the crunch they make.  Time to go, catch you on the flip flop Y’all..

Friday February 25th 2011

Beautiful morning.  It is cloudy but the breeze is blowing and it really isn’t bad out, in fact it is kind of cool, beautiful day to sit outside.

We did turn the air on during the day, it got into the 80s which really wasn’t to bad but it gets way to warm in the camper.

Sparky and I got to sit outside for quite awhile.  He kept himself busy for a long time…

100_2382

He just has to admire his work and accomplishments…

100_2384

I just let him dig.  He was having a great time and all I have to do is push the dirt and stones back off the slab.  He is really doing well at obeying too. He usually stays right around where we are if I tell him to or tell him to come back.  Notice I don’t have a leash on him.

Linda and I went to the Star Drive Inn tonight for something to eat.  Linda got a jalapeno burger which wasn’t the greatest and we both got a hot fudge sundae.  They were pretty good.

We left there and went on to Wal Mart to check out a couple things and Linda got Sparky a new bed, doesn’t he look comfortable???

100_2385

Not much else going on, oh, this morning we had the coffee klatch and I was talking to Andy and wouldn’t you know, Cordova Drag Strip was one of his hangouts!!  I went there once in awhile.  He raced, I watched, even though I don’t remember seeing him, he is the second person that I have met that used to go to Cordova Drag Strip, the other person was in Sikeston MO. Getting back to this morning, we had a Bible Study and a great discussion, or discussions.

Well, not to much going on tonight so will let y’all go…Night Y’all…

Thursday February 24th 2011

This is a gorgeous morning!!  The wind is blowing a little and it is cool out and we are waiting for the Pony Express Propane guy.  He usually gets here around 8AM so I got Linda up and got ready for him.  We waited. We waited some more, guess I better call.  No answer.  HMMMM I think maybe I should ask Bob.  Bob said he was supposed to be here today.  I got the phone and there was a message from Pony Express so I called back and “no answer”.  He called back again, not a “happy camper” guess I didn’t listen to his voice mail.  Anyway, he said he would be here today but had no idea what time.  Guess what??  We waited some more.  He made it here about 10AM, give or take, and we got our propane.  This was the most that we ever had to get 6.4 gallons!  Not a big tank and why it was empty I’m not sure, hope we don’t have a leak.

It is still nice out and Sparky and I have been sitting out but I can tell it is going to get warm and figured we would have to turn on the air conditioner before long.  I was right, it got warm, in fact the record was broken today, 97 degrees, the record was 96.  Sparky and I still sat outside though and it wasn’t to bad as long as the breeze was blowing.

Tonight the weather man said it was going to cool off and be really nice so I went outside after supper and sat for awhile and Linda came out also.  We figured it would cool off pretty fast when the sun went down.  WRONG!  We opened up the camper and watched TV and it got warmer.  I think when we were ready for bed about 10:15PM it was still in the 70s.  Air conditioner time!  Glad I turned it on it was a lot more comfortable than with the windows open, I know because tomorrow morning when I got up it was cool outside but with about 100% humidity.  Very uncomfortable outside.  I’m getting ahead of myself.  If I say in my blog tomorrow that it was a beautiful morning, you will know I forgotSmile…Night Y’all….

Wednesday February 23rd 2011

Well February is going fast won’t be long until March is here and we will have to decide when we are going to head back to Sikeston.  I think we may stay until the middle of March and then decide if we are going to make a stop at Lake Pointe.  Depends on whether Charles and Pat are there or not.  Pat is undergoing radiation right now so they don’t know for sure when they will be able to leave New York.  Charles is going to work at Adventure Land in Des Moines IA which really surprised me.  We may be staying home this summer but depends on whether we find a good job or not.  Always open for a good job.

It is very warm again today and will probably have to turn on the air. The wind isn’t blowing very hard today, at least I don’t think so and when the wind doesn’t blow it feels very warm.

We visited with the neighbors today, Will and Nancy, and went on a ride with them to another park to check it out.  Not a bad park but has more restrictions than this one.  If we come back next year it will probably be here at Seldom Rest.  We like it here and the people are real friendly.

I sat out with Will for awhile talking about “stuff” and he showed us their camper and explained all the renovations he had done in it.  It looks good and the changes were for the good.  Looks nice!

Linda asked Dale and Velda if they wanted to go to Alejandra's  for some Mexican food.  They agreed and we took off.  We have never been there before and it looked pretty nice from the outside so we went in and it was a nice place.  They have a buffet on Wednesday, Shrimp, Fish and Ribs for $9.99.   The buffet looked good and smelled good but we all figured it would be way to much to eat.  We ordered and the food looked good and there was a lot of it…

100_2376

Velda got fish, Dale got Burritos, Linda got Chili Rellano and I got Carne Guisada.  They were all very good and almost to much to eat.  Our waiter, and his friend, liked to have their pictures taken….

100_2379

The waiter was quite a card, he couldn’t speak very good English but enough.  Looked like she may have had a crazy personality also…

Time to quit for the night, watch a little TV and go to bed.  Hopefully it will be cool tonight.  We opened up the camper but it is still warm…Night Y’all..

Tuesday February 22nd 2011

We are having some really warm weather.  I think today is supposed to be a little cooler but who knows??

100_2375

This is the group of women that got together to go to Victoria’s Tea House or somewhere like that.  If I counted right there are nineteen in the group. I walked over to the clubhouse with Linda and they were all inside when I thought…I need to get a picture!!  They were already getting their pictures taken so I just weaseled my way in and got one also.

I’m trying to think of what else we did today after Linda got back.  Oh, we went to McDonald’s to get online!  I was not impressed with the wifi at McDonald’s, very slow. We went on over to Wal Mart to pick up a few things, which we should have had a list because we forgot things we needed.  I think I will have to make a list for next time.

We left the air on for Sparky and it’s a good thing, the weather is pretty warm and humid.  Nice inside the camper.

We just took it easy tonight.  Didn’t do anything special except watch our Tuesday night TV shows.  Anyway, will write more tomorrow..Night Y’all…

Monday February 21st 2011

Well, today is going to be really warm, think it is supposed to get into the 80s!  Guess that will be OK.  We have neighbors that pulled in just down the line from us and they are from Geneseo, IL.  We asked them if they wanted to go to the pizza place with us for the pizza “klatch”.  A bunch from the park gets together on Monday at Peter Piper Pizza.  We usually have a pretty good crowd.

100_2370

This is Will and Nancy from Geneseo, well, not really but close to Geneseo.  We had a good lunch and had almost 2 tables filled with people from the park…

100_2371

They have a little raffle for each party.  Linda and I never win anything but it is cute to watch.

After lunch we decided to go to some different parks, well, we went to Bentsen RGV State Park first and it was a walking tour for $5 and we decided we didn’t the the exercise.  We went to different RV parks to check some out and really saw some luxurious parks!!  They have some parks that will build houses or most anything.  Took a picture of one that I would like to have back in Missouri..

100_2373

The price was really reasonable…yeah right… about $160,000.  They did have some nice looking places though.

We turned on the air conditioner before we left because we figured it would get warm.  The bank down the road had 96 on the thermometer and the truck had 93.  Glad we had the air turned on for Sparky.  Way to warm outside and inside.

Not much else going on, We have a neighbor next door, they are from Quebec.  Very nice people.  They drove from Quebec down here then drove on to Acapulco.  Not for me, I don’t want to take any vehicle over the border.   They had some good stories, not real easy to understand, they speak mostly French.

Stayed in tonight and watched TV Try to keep cool.  Will write more tomorrow but not sure when I will be able to post it, guess it depends on when we get to McDonalds again… Night Y’all…

Sunday February 20th 2011

It is Sunday!!  Well, it is really nice this morning but I think it is going to get warm.

I went to church at Blue Bonnet again, had a pretty good service.  Not a great preacher but usually has good messages.

When I got back home I thought I would try to make tuna and noodles. I have been hungry for them and thought I would try to make biscuits to go on the top.  I am going to make them out of rice flour and soy flour.  I also used coconut oil.  Well…..

100_2366

Looks home made doesn’t it??? Well, they were edible but just barely.  I think I put to much rice flour in it and was pretty dry and the bottom was kind of mushy.  Didn’t taste all that bad but wasn’t really to good.  More practice….

Linda had made some honey dew and watermelon stuff…

100_2367

Now this was pretty good.  We bought the honey dew and the watermelon from the Don-Wes flea market.  I even eat the watermelon and it isn’t to bad.  Linda likes salt on hers, I like mine without.

Linda’s sister Marilyn came home from the hospital and from reports every thing went well and the aneurism in her stomach has been repaired and she is just sore now.  Takes time when you are over 39!!

We didn’t do much the rest of the day, it got hot and we didn’t have the air conditioner on.  It was almost to hot to sit outside.  Sparky doesn’t do a lot of running around when it’s this hot.  Any way, we are going to take it easy the rest of the night and enjoy the cool breeze until bed time.  Night Y’all…

Saturday February 19th 2011

Sounds kind of boring but it is just a little cool outside and cloudy.  It will clear up and get warm though before to long.  Now I should say that we planned on going to the flea market today so the next paragraph starts..

Our neighbors, Dale and Velda went ahead and went to the flea market with Stephen and Janice.  There were eight of us going so we couldn’t all go in one car.

We went with Joe and Mary.  The flea market, Don-Wes, was really busy, I don’t like all that many people, it just isn’t comfortable.

100_2360

I like the flea market but the one by where we live is closer and I think better.  I did find a couple things here, a couple of belts and a water splitter. Something I can hook two hoses up to and not have to unhook either one!

We stopped at a couple of different campgrounds looking for a rock club get together.  It wasn’t at the first one but it was at the second.  It was interesting, some of the rocks were very expensive!!!  (We stopped at Bentsen Palm Resort first then Bentsen Grove Resort)

On the way back from the flea market we decided to stop at the meat market and get a couple of t-bone steaks.  This was a different kind of meat market and was kind of interesting.

Joe cooked the steaks tonight on his grill and we brought over a couple sweet potatoes and some fruit that we bought at the flea market.  The honey dew melon was really good, I guess the water melon was OK but I’m not really into water melon.  Guess I will eat it anyway.  We had a good time over at Joe and Mary’s, played a couple games of “Farkle”.  Had a good night.

Guess I will say  “Night Y’all”….

Friday February 18th 2011

Another cloudy warm day.  It is cool in the morning but doesn’t take long to warm up.

I went to the coffee klatch this morning.  Bernie and Elinore hosted the coffee klatch and brought a lot of home made breads and muffins.  Had a good time visiting with our new neighbors from Cedar Rapids, IA.  I think most everyone has a story to tell and most are very interesting.

We were taking it easy when Don and LaVon called and asked us to meet them for lunch.  They decided on BJ’s Brew house… It was very interesting.

100_2351

It was a nice place to have lunch.  Had soup and salad and Linda got a sandwich with soup and salad.  We also got a dessert.  A hot peanut butter cookie with ice cream on top.  Very rich!  We enjoyed the fellowship as well as the food.

Linda wanted to go to…

100_2355

I checked out the “nook” that they sell there but I don’t think it is for me.  I don’t do that much reading and you still have to buy the books.  Costs way to much for me to still have to buy the books.

I didn’t stay inside very long it was too cool and I couldn’t find any books so I went outside and guess what I saw…

100_2353

This is the landing pattern for the airport.  I got to see a few planes come in for landings.

We went on home and we were supposed to take the neighbors dog out…Tucker, and by the time we got home they were already home so we didn’t have to worry about doing it.

Well, just going to watch a little TV tonight, not much else going on.  We have some plans for tomorrow to go to Don-Wes flea market so will watch some TV tonight and then go to bed….Night Y’all…

Thursday February 17th 2011

100_2343

Sparky gets the peanut butter jar!!  I think he likes it!

It is a beautiful day out, cloudy this morning but going to be sunny later and get pretty warm.  It has been getting into the 80s and the wind blows quite hard.  It would really be hot if the wind wasn’t blowing.

We aren’t doing much today, going to take it easy.  We spent quite awhile outside enjoying the warm breeze.

Sparky has been collecting palm branch pieces to chew on…

100_2349

Sparky usually picks up a piece when we are on a walk and brings it back to the camper to play with.  Kind of a mess but he sure has a good time with these pieces of branch.  He sure looks funny carrying these pieces which are as big or bigger than he is.

Our camper gets really warm.  I went to take a nap and it was about 90 degrees in the bedroom.  Sparky liked it.  I may have said this once, maybe yesterday, can’t remember, then again, yesterday was about four days ago, no wonder I can’t remember what we did.

I think I will close for now and start tomorrows blog, I know a little about what we did tomorrow, how many people can say that???? Night Y’all…

Wednesday February 16th 2011

The wind is blowing but it is nice out, cloudy but warm enough to go out in shirt sleeves!!  I think the next week is supposed to be in the 80s which I can handle.

I have been thinking about how long to stay here and I think that next month we will start paying by the week and when the time seems right we will leave.  We would stay until the end of the month but there are places we want to stop and people to see and taxes to do when we get back if we don’t do them here.

We aren’t doing much today, I have been outside with Sparky.  I can doze in the lawn chair but after and hour or so the chair becomes very uncomfortable.  Dale and Velda came over and we sat outside and talked for awhile, actually I think we laughed most of the time at a peculiar subject, toilet paper!  You say you wonder how toilet paper can be so funny???  Me too!  We just started talking about it and the subject just kept ballooning.  Dale was teasing Velda about spending so much time in the store in the toilet paper isle reading the labels!!  Linda got in on it with me buying recycled toilet paper, now that led into more “stuff”.

We decided to go out for supper to a place our neighbors told us about called Pier 67…

100_2337

This is a very small place, I think it had four tables maybe five…

100_2334

This is our waiter/cook.  He was a very nice guy and easy to talk to.  He is checking the bottles of hot sauce for the hottest to the coolest.  Velda is trying to figure out what kind to  get for a friend.  We did try some of them and they were HOT  -  Habanero hot!!.

Just a picture of us getting ready to eat.  Dale and Velda got shrimp baskets and Linda and I got fish tacos…

100_2335

The toilet paper subject didn’t dominate the evening but it didn’t go away either.  We had some really good laughs tonight.

Dale took us to Harbor Freight to look around.  I was surprised that it was just about two blocks away for the grocery store we like “Sun Harvest”.  I wanted to check for wood splitting wedges.  They had them and I bought two of them.  Now I have my toys to take back home.. I got an axe, a sledge hammer, a maul or single edge axe and two wedges….

100_2339

I think all of this together was about $49.  I will have to get a new handle for the axe I imagine but I may not use it all that much either, will have to wait and see.  We may go to Pulga again because they have handles there.

Well, that was pretty much it for the day.  Had a really nice day and will take it easy tonight.  Night Y’all….

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Tuesday February 15th 2011

It’s cloudy this morning but it isn’t cold.  I wore a sweater out but even that was almost to warm.  The wind is blowing out of the South and makes it pretty nice.  I know it is going to get very warm today.

I got Linda up and we had a piece of toast and it still tastes pretty good.  I think with the soy and rice flour it has a little different taste and the texture is quite a bit firmer.  Good for toast.  I may try some bread made with bacon and cheese.  We had biscuits made with bacon and cheese and I thought it was pretty good.

We decided to go to “Pulga” today.  That is a flea market just up the road from us and we have gone there a couple other times and I have found mauls and axes there and just haven’t picked up any yet.  I will need them when we get back home.  I was actually looking for splitting wedges but you just don’t see them anywhere.  I bought a double edged axe, used, and a new maul or single edged axe.  Today was actually a great day for the flea market, nice and windy and not to warm or to cold.

We decided to try one of the food venders there and we got a breakfast taco that was really good.  Also got a Coke, actually in a bottle!

100_2329

Our waitress was shy…

100_2330

Tacos were excellent….

100_2331

There are a lot of flea markets here in the valley but so far I think this is my favorite one.  It is close and they have more than trinkets.  A lot of the venders have used stuff that actually is pretty good.  A good place to get tools and they have new stuff also.  I bought an insulated coffee server a  couple weeks ago for three dollars and it is great!  Definitely worth the money!!

They also have a lot of fruit and vegetables there…

100_2326

I don’t know how many fruit and vegetable places there are but has to be a couple dozen.  Very interesting and the produce is pretty cheap.

Well, today was a great day to sit outside and enjoy the warm weather and the breeze, actually, strong wind.

Linda fixed a couple chopped sirloin steaks for supper with baked sweet potato and salad.  Nice supper.

Watched TV tonight and took it easy again.  We had three of our neighbors leave this morning, maybe I need to check my deodorant!!  Anyway, we have three empty spaces next to us and it is kind of nice, we have a little view again. Time to quit…Night Y’all….

Monday February 14th 2011

Happy Valentine’s Day!!  Gorgeous day outside!!  Sunny, warm and the wind is blowing.   Love it!  Supposed to get up to 80 today and I’m sure it will make it.

I figured as nice as it was outside I would give Sparky a bath!!  May not have been the best bath in the world but he looks better and I also washed his harness…

100_2301

Doesn’t he look happy??  He didn’t like the bath, I have scratches all over my arm and one place he drew blood but he got his bath!

I also decided to try to make some bread again.  I’m not sure if it is healthy bread or not but I used rice flour, soy flour and all purpose flour.  It didn’t turn out to bad and doesn’t look to bad and doesn’t taste to bad…

100_2302

I think I can try different ratios of soy, rice and all purpose flour, maybe I will get it right.

I sat outside quit a bit this afternoon, I had to sit in the shade because it was too hot in the sun.  I let Sparky loose without his leash and he did really good.  If he started wandering off I would call him back and he stayed right in the area.  He sure gets hyper though when someone comes by.  He thinks that they have come to see him.  I guess they like Sparky though, they usually just talk to himSad smile

Tonight we had a Valentine Dinner at the clubhouse.  They served prime rib, baked potato, salad and a roll.  It was very good.  We had a pretty good time there but was kind of noisy..

100_2320

Butch sliced the prime rib and Mary was a server.

Tonight we watched TV again, I got to watch “Chuck” and “The Cape” while Linda watched “The Bachelor”  Had a pretty good night.  Didn’t cool off much in the camper, we left it open when we went to bed.  Not to many blankets tonight…Night Y’all….

Sunday February 13th 2011

Looks like it is going to be a very nice day today, not cloudy and not to windy and not to cold!  I think I will take it!

I went to church at Blue Bonnet again this morning.  Best part about going to Blue Bonnet is I can walk, only takes a few minutes. Service was pretty good.

Darrel still isn’t feeling well and Cindy is supposed to be back this afternoon.  I sure don’t envy him, he has been feeling pretty bad.  I think they will stay at least one day if not two or three.  They are great neighbors.

This afternoon I tried taking Sparky for a walk and he really didn’t want to go for a walk, now that is amazing.  I got the lawn chair and sat in the sun, in a short sleeve shirt for a couple of hours.  Sparky stayed in my lap all the time except when I put him down for a couple minutes to see if he wanted to play.  He really didn’t want to play so he got back in my lap.  He didn’t even get out of my lap when Tater came over.  Even when I put him down he stuck around.  Velda came over and he stayed in my lap all the time except he was very excited to see Velda.

Linda fixed Taco Salad for supper.  Linda’s blood has been running a little high and we can’t figure out why, she hasn’t been overdoing much of anything.  It isn’t real high but higher than she would like it to be.  Maybe the taco salad will help.

Watched HGTV most of the night.  Not much on.  Cindy came over this afternoon and brought us a box of Girl Scout peanut butter cookies.  That was very nice!  They know we like peanut butter, and cookiesSmile..

Time to go to bed now so maybe I will take some pictures tomorrow.  It is Valentine Day tomorrow and we are going to the clubhouse for the dinner they are putting on… Have a great night Y’all…

Saturday February 12th 2011

It is going to be a beautiful day today, sun is shining and the wind isn’t blowing very hard.  Supposed to get into the upper 60s today.  Hopefully it will make it.  The next week is supposed to get warmer every day up into the mid to upper 80s.  I think I will be able to handle that!!

Our neighbor had some family problems in Austin so she left last night to to up there, well, actually it was this morning about 2AM.  Darrel is not feeling well at all.  They are supposed to hook up and leave Sunday morning and he sure isn’t feeling good.  I went over to check on him and he doesn’t look good at all.  I think he either has a bad cold or the flu.  I went to H.E.B.  and picked up a few things and Linda made some chicken noodle soup and we took some over to him.  Not sure what he thought about the soup but we sure liked it.

I walked Sparky all over today trying to get him worn down a little.  We also sat outside for awhile and he liked that.

I finally got on the internet long enough to Google “soy flour”.  I don’t think I know a lot more now than I did before.  It is supposed to be good for you and they do make a lot of things from soy.  I will probably try some more bread Monday but I think that wheat flour has to be used to make it raise. I could probably try to use gluten in it to make it raise but I’m not sure how that works.  I need a friend that is a baker so I could pick his brain to find out about this stuff.

Kim called from San Diego and told us that the Navy had a thing going on that was supposed to be streamed “live” on the internet.  I couldn’t get it. I got the radio station but that was it.

I think we will take it easy tonight and watch some more TV!  That sounds different right???  Well, Linda is watching the “Hallmark” channel so I played games on the computer and watched a little, at times.

I guess this is as good a time as any to sign off…Night Y’all….

Friday February 11th 2011

This may be a little hard for me to write.  This is actually Sunday, I’m just a little behind in my blog writing…

It is still cold but supposed to warm up a little. I’m trying to think what we did today.  Linda wasn’t feeling real chipper today and she slept most of the day.  Something seems to be going around here, not sure what but a lot of people are getting sick, not real bad but sick enough to make them, well, feel real lazy and they seem to have a bad cough.

We didn’t do anything today that was out of the ordinary, watched TV tonight to see our shows, other than that we didn’t really do anything.  This is really going to be a short one, maybe it will “post” really fast..Night Y’all…

Friday, February 11, 2011

Thursday February 10th 2011

This is a miserable morning!!  The wind is blowing and it is cold!!  I can see blue sky so maybe the sun will shine!  Actually didn’t shine until it was going down.  It was overcast most of the day.

We got propane this morning, cost $16.50 for 5.9 gallons.  We have filled up quite a few times the past six weeks.  I haven’t figured out how he calculates the cost.  He told me the first time I filled up it was $3 per gallon. That is good enough.  Hasn’t come out to $3 any time that I have filled up so I’m not sure what they are charging but this time it was good because it was less than $3 per gallon. Other times I think it has been more than $3 per gallon.

Our neighbor Janice likes cats.  She adopted one here that she named patches.  Very nice kitten, or cat.  There was another that she couldn’t get tamed down enough to get it.  I think she named it Razz.  It isn’t a tame cat but I think she(?) likes Sparky.  She likes to tease him anyway….

100_2294

100_2295

He was within about four inches of Razz and Razz to a gentle swipe at Sparky and I figured that was enough. Razz still has his claws and Sparky doesn’t understand what she could do to him.  I have to restrain him because I think he would really like to play with her.

We took a ride to Home Depot this afternoon.  I wanted to find some foam insulation for under our slide out to try to stop a little of the cold wind from coming in.   Wal Mart didn’t have it but Home Depot did.  Got six packages of it and when we got home I plugged up the front slide and will do the back one later.

We took a ride over to Sun Harvest, a really nice grocery store and wanted to look for rice flour.  They had it!  I’ve been looking on the internet for rice flour bread recipes.  Found a bunch of them and found one that was easy.  We also bought a couple of steaks and I bought some soy flour.  Trying some different things.  I don’t know anything about soy flour but am going to try it anyway.

When we got home I tried to bake some “rice flour bread”.  I guess it turned out OK, looks good and tastes good, only it tastes like corn bread and has the same consistency and corn bread is a lot cheaper but this may be healthier…

I forgot, when we left we stopped at Taco Express.  Thought we would try some Mexican place to see if it was good.  It was very busy and we were the only Gringo’s in the place!!!  The food wasn’t bad, I tasted mine all afternoon!!!!!!

Linda got chicken fajita tacos and I got the beef.  There is a plate of beans on the bottom of the picture, that plate is actually a saucer for a cup and the beans on it were about 2 tablespoons and cost $1.50.  Linda got cheese on here tacos and that was another $1.50.  The lunch ended up being good but expensive!

Well, our night was pretty quiet, not much going on.  Watched a little more TV and called it a night…..Night Y’all….

Wednesday February 9th 2011

Sure is warm this morning.  I went out with my sweater on and it was almost to warm.  About 9AM though there was a drastic change!!   The temperature dropped about twenty degrees in about an hour and the wind blew like crazy!

We are supposed to go over to Don and LaVon’s for a cookout but the way the temperature is and the way the wind is blowing (and it’s starting to drizzle) we aren’t sure if we will have to postpone it or not.  We called and it was still on!!

Don grilled steaks out on the grill and they had made a tossed salad and baked sweet potatoes!   Excellent!!  Linda also made a fruit salad for desert.  That was really good to, I thought about taking some Splenda along to put on it but it was really sweet, just right in fact.

We played a couple games of Zilch and during the second game we met the manager of Johnson Creek RV Park where Don will be preaching and LaVon will be working in the office.  I could work there doing the lawn mowing but think we will pass on this job.  The park sounds beautiful and we may drive over if we stop in Canyon Lake just to see what it is like.

I didn’t fill up with propane yesterday and now I am wondering if one third tank will last until tomorrow because the furnace it running quite a bit.

We aren’t going to do anything tonight in fact I took a nap and Sparky joined me.  I don’t think he wanted to get up, he was really cozy and warm under the covers..

We watched a couple TV shows tonight but didn’t do much else so guess I will sign off for today….Night Y’all…

Tuesday February 8th 2011

Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day.  Sunny, not to cool but a little windy, but the wind is OK when it is warm.  When it is cold the wind isn’t any fun at all.

Not much going on today.  I want to go to Burger King and post my blog. Also go to Joe’s Crab Shack and get a menu and figure out just where it is. We did find it and got the menu and found out it is rather expensive.  Breakfast taco at a gas station $1.20, dinner at Joe’s Crab Shack, $20.  I like the breakfast taco’s!!  Frugal is a good word for that, which means I’m cheap and don’t like to spend the moneySmile..

We did our thing at Burger King and it is really funny, I can download my blog for three or four days, read the email and check a few other things and my coffee is still to hot to drink.  I like Burger King!!

We went on to Wal Mart, I wanted to get some foam insulation for our slides so the wind wouldn’t come in quite so bad when it is cold.  They didn’t have the big stuff so I will probably have to go to Home Depot or Lowes to get it.  We did pick up a few things at Wal Mart, like fruit and milk etc.

Linda fixed some pork fajitas for supper.  WOW!!  Wasn’t sure about them but they were excellent, I ate six!!  They came in a package from HEB and they were already seasoned but Linda put her own seasonings on them and voila!! Excellent…

We got to watch our Tuesday night programs tonight and they were all quite good!!  We taped one but don’t know when we will get to watch it, maybe some time tomorrow.

Well, guess that it is about it for today, catch you tomorrow, well, depends on whether this will download here or not, no pictures so maybe it will work… Night Y’all…

Monday February 7th 2011

It is going to be another beautiful day.  The sun is shining and not a lot of wind.  I slept in a little late this morning. I didn’t get up until 6:45AM!  I figured Sparky would be ready to go out in a big way.  He was ready and when it finally got light I took him for another walk for about forty five minutes. He was really hyper this morning.  He was pretty good for the first half hour then he got hyper. A couple of times he did a little running.  Dale happened to be out with Tucker and he saw Sparky go kind of spastic!  He couldn’t go far because I have him on a fifteen foot leash but he would run one way, slide to a stop, run the other way, slide to a stop then run around me a few times at full speed.  He is pretty fast!  When we got up to Dale and Tucker, Sparky kind of slinks on his stomach towards them, then runs and of course he had to do his running thing again, Tucker doesn’t care much for Sparky, can’t understand why???

It warmed up enough to sit out in the lawn chair for  about an hour.  The sun is hot the wind is just a little cool. I guess the temperature only go up to 65 but was a great day except for all the wind.

I forgot.  I went and picked up a breakfast burrito for Linda.  I had to go to three places before I finally got one.  Got it at a gas station and it was very good, bacon and egg was all it had in it, probably a few spices but mainly bacon and egg.

Mary came over to show Linda a cowboy hat she had gussied up.  Doesn’t look to bad!!!

Mary wraps stones with wire and I think all the rest of the adornment was wire and beads.  It is a snake.  Looks pretty good huh?

I went over to the clubhouse about 6:15PM.  The McKinny’s were putting on a show tonight…

100_2281

They did a mixture of Country, Rock and Gospel.  A lot of the songs were spoofs of hits and others were their originals I believe.  It was a good entertaining show.  I would go to see them again.  They are camped here at the campground.  I will have to say that they are good with the instruments. The washtub bass is unique and she plays the wash board also.

Not a lot going on the rest of the night.  Will watch some TV, have some shows taped but Linda is watching “The Bachelor” which I think is really STUPID!!!  I worked on the computer (games) while it was on and made snide remarks about all the stupidity.  What a way to find a wife!  This is his second time and the girls all know it and he….forget it..I think I’m judgingSmile….

Time to go to bed.  Got to watch a little TV and Sparky was in bed early.  He did go out one last time but went right back in his “box”.  I think he is still tired from this morning….Night Y’all….

Sunday February 6th 2011

Today is Linda’s birthday!!!  I’m not sure if she cares if I say how old she is or not so I won’t say.  She is on medi-care now and I’m sure happy.  We haven’t had insurance for the last 4 or 5 years and she has been pretty healthy except for the blood sugar.

We (Sparky and I) woke Linda up early this morning so we could go over to Tip O Texas for church service this morning.  LaVon had called earlier and wanted us to go out to eat with them.  They treated this morning.  We went to the Echo Hotel again.  They have really good breakfasts…

100_2276

Got a picture of LaVon and Linda in the Narthex…100_2274

I’m not sure what the hotel is like but the breakfast buffet is great…

We visited for awhile with Don and LaVon then headed back to the camper and took a nap.

We didn’t do much this afternoon, just took it easy.  Actually this is Tuesday and I can’t remember what we did and Linda can’t either so I guess we watched some TV and went to bed.  Night Y’all….

Saturday February 5th 2011

Beautiful sunny day but very chilly.  Car has a lot of frost on it so it is still cold.  The wind isn’t blowing so maybe it will warm up.  Fact is by this afternoon I was sitting outside in the lawn chair and enjoying the nice weather.  It isn’t real warm but the sun was really nice!!

Took a picture of the banana tree here in the park, it didn’t do well…

100_2277

I heard that it froze two years ago and it came back so maybe it isn’t completely dead.

I think we took it pretty easy this afternoon and just hung out.  We have plans tonight to go to the San Juan Basilica down the road a few miles.  We followed our neighbors, Darrel and Cindy and their friends…

100_2006

This was really different for us, the music was a Mariachi Band which did an excellent job.  I was surprised because if have heard the Mexican bands before and the are pretty loud but they really were good.  I think I have a picture of them…

100_2271

The picture isn’t real good but they were really spread out.  I took a video of them playing a song but I can’t find it!!  Got to be here somewhere.  I took it with Linda’s camera.  I will keep searching for it.

After the church service we went to a Mexican restaurant called Garza's.  The food was authentic Mexican and not to bad!!  Linda got taco’s  and I got Carne Quesada and it was pretty good…

100_2273

I took a picture outside which didn’t turn out.  I should have used a flash I guess.  It was pretty blurry.  We had a good time tonight and made some new friends.  They are talking about coming back next year.  We are also thinking about it.  Darrel and Cindy on the right are from Austin TX and David and Karen are from Michigan close to Ohio.  Had a very good time with them..

Back home at the camper we are going to take it easy.  I had to do some driving in the dark and I don’t really like doing that.

We went to bed at our normal time.  Started getting chilly out again so the furnace got to work again tonight…..Night Y’all….

Friday February 4th 2011

Guess what??? It’s still cold out!  Most everything is covered with ice and it is cold but the sun is supposed to shine today so maybe it will warm up.  The wind is still blowing out of the North at a pretty good clip so it really feels cold outside  It is still in the twenties so will take awhile to warm up. Took a couple pictures so I will see if I have downloaded them…

100_2256

I think this one shows the ice better than any of the others.  This is looking across the road and the weeds and trees are loaded with ice.  It has been falling and probably will continue to fall most of the day.

We don’t have a lot planned, I would really like to go to Burger King, they have wifi and hopefully it will work better than here at Seldom Rest.  We took off about noon and got lost, well, kind of, we took the long route to Wal Mart then down to Burger King.  Actually Burger King isn’t far from here.  Their wifi works great.  I down loaded 4 days of blog in about five minutes.  Takes five minutes here at Seldom Rest to get online.  Linda wanted to try a new sandwich there, it is a jalapeno cheese stuffed Angus burger.  It tasted pretty good but not really worth the price.  After that we headed home and decided to stop at a bakery.  It is a Mexican bakery and the “stuff” looks really good.  We bought a few things and brought them home.

Linda had fixed chili the other day so we had “chili dogs” for supper and a pastry for desert.  Not to bad, different.  We still have more left so will try them tomorrow I guess.

Going to stay in tonight and keep warm.  Not much on TV tonight either, so maybe I will play games on the computer for awhile then go to bed.  Hope everyone is keeping warm!!!  Night Y’all….
