Friday February 22nd 2013

Got Linda up early this morning, we have having coffee at the clubhouse and I really like going to them, lots of fun, talking and laughs!  A couple from New Brunswick Canada hosted it this morning and they went above and beyond coffee and donuts, they had a humongous bowl of delicious fruit and donuts, coffee cake and other goodies, excellent!

At 9:30 we have a bible study and Kermit led it.  It is a good discussion topic, a book by Tony Dunge.  He has some excellent points and we have a really good discussion on it.  Kermit says next week we will go over the first eight chapters of Romans.  Should be interesting.  I think there were ten or twelve of us in attendance.  Different denominations and that really makes it interesting, no fighting, we all know we have different ideas of different subjects and we all agree to disagree and we all go away learning something different from others.  Very interesting.

Well, I got the pictures printed and we went to the post office to mail them.  I had to get a box because we had a few different things to send with the pictures.  Hopefully Alexa will like the pictures.

I was going to put a picture in here of Alexa but I don’t have any on this computer.  Maybe I can get Brenna to send one to me???

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful, took it easy and watched some TV etc….Night Y’all.

Thursday February 21st 2013

I did it again, I have procrastinated and now it is Sunday so I will try to remember what we did on Thursday, that won’t be easy, I can’t hardly remember what we did this morning!

There was dance practice this morning and we didn’t go to that, so that’s one thing we didn’t do!  Didn’t go to the dance tonight either, so that is two things we didn’t do!

I am going to say this is the day we went to Wal Mart and I bought a new printer.  I got a Kodak printer and Kodak isn’t in business anymore but I have been looking at these for a long time now and decided it was now or never.  I do have a problem though, my computer doesn’t have a DVD drive so I can’t download the  drivers for the printer. After looking at the instructions I thought they said the drivers were installed in the printer so I hooked up my computer and everything was there except the driver. The printer does have a card reader and a scanner so I started printing pictures of “Flat Stanley” and his adventures with us.  Better go back a couple of steps, I had these pictures developed at Wal Mart and most of them I didn’t like and that is why I am printing them on the computer.

I have a document I want to print and it is on my computer so I hooked up Linda’s computer and downloaded the drivers on it then I copied the drivers to an SD card.  Worked pretty good but still wouldn’t work so the internet was just good enough to download what I didn’t have and now I can hook up my computer to the printer.  I finally got my document printed, took me about a half hour to correct mistakes.   I really had a hard time typing on this computer but I think it turned out OK.

Downloading the stuff for drivers took me most of the evening.  Hard to compute and watch my favorite shows!

The was about all for today I think.  Good day and not a lot going on so…. Night Y’all.

Wednesday February 13th 2013

Had more odd jobs to do today.  I removed the vent over the stove and painted it.  Not a fun job but it looks a little better.  I put it back in and also put in the vent we bought the other day.  Not an easy job  but I got it. Things are coming together, and I’m starting to run out of things to do.  May have to start another project, well, maybe next year. Bathroom next year,  didn’t want to get it all done this year.

I took the car down to the car wash this afternoon and got the salt spray off of it.  I noticed that  the oil needs to be changed.  Probably before we leave.

We went to the clubhouse this evening for root beer floats. Had a good time.

I played games on the computer and thought this would be a good time to catch up on my blog.

HI FRANK!

Time to say Night Y’all…

Tuesday February 19th 2013

Today we are going to South Padre Island with Don and Cheryl.  We haven’t been there for about 20 years so thought this would be a good time to do it.

I drove down and we stopped at a couple of parks and got to look at some birds…

P1010589

Lots of seagulls!  They really like the free handouts.  We had some bread we fed them.  Also got a picture of Linda and Flat Stanley at the beach…

P1010582

We ate at a place called Ted’s Restaurant.  Had a pretty good meal, Flat Stanley seemed to be happy!

P1010606

He is smiling!

We got back home in time to let Sparky out and got to the clubhouse for spaghetti.  That was good.  Joe and Mary had it, well, I think Mary did most of the work except for serving, Joe did that.

We took it easy the rest of the night so it is time to say Night Y’all…

Monday February 18th 2013

Monday, well, it has been very nice, actually we have had great weather almost all the time we’ve been here.  Yes we had some pretty cool weather when we ran the furnace but mostly it has been in the seventies and eighties and windy!

Today we took a ride down to a restaurant called Riverside.  It is right on the Rio Grande River.  Had to get a picture of Flat Stanley with Grandma…

P1010563

We went to Gooding RV place and got a vent for our stove.  Pretty expensive but I needed one, then we went to Wal Mart to get a few things for painting the registers.

When we got home I painted registers while Linda was at Happy Hour.  They turned out pretty good but I sure don’t like this spray paint, it doesn’t dry fast at all.  It took awhile before they were dry enough to get back in their places and they were still sticky.  Took until morning before they were really dry enough to walk on.

Watched our favorite TV shows tonight.  They were good.

Well, time to say Night Y’all…

Sunday February 17th 2013

Went to church at MFBC and Pastor Adrian had another great sermon. Sunday School was good also.

We took it easy today, Linda wasn’t feeling good so we pretty much took it easy today, didn’t go anywhere just stuck around home and took it easy.

We just remembered we did do something today.  We took a ride with Don and Cheryl to Shepler’s to look at boots.

We ate at a Mexican restaurant called Poncho's and had a great meal. First time I had Botanos which I shared with Cheryl.  We both like beef and it was really good.  We went on to Boot Jack and I got a picture of Flat Stanley… Stanley is a friend of Alexa, our grand daughter, who is in school in San Diego and Flat Stanley is a project that we are helping with. We are supposed to show Stanley a good time!

P1010560

We stopped at another store to look at more boots but bought none!   Had a good day of fellowship though.

We watched some TV tonight and then to bed…Night Y’all…

Saturday February 16th 2013

Linda still isn’t feeling well so I let her sleep in again today.  I told her I would like to go to Tiger Direct to look at a Google Computer.

During the time I let her sleep I decided to do a few things.  The handles on the doors under sink are way to low for me, may be OK for Linda but to low for me so I moved them up.  Not a real easy job but I did it and it is a lot easier to open the doors with the handles now instead of using the top of the door.  After I moved the handles I filled the old holes with caulk and then painted the doors.  Looks OK, not professional by any means but OK.

When Linda got up I asked if she noticed anything different, I even pointed at the handles and she asked if I cleaned them so I had to tell her I moved them.  Works for me!

We went to the store after she got ready and we drove past it three times before we finally found it but we stopped at Shepler’s first and I got a pair of boots, not really cowboy boots but on that line.  Most I have ever spent on a pair of shoes!  They cost $130 but we got a $20 coupon so didn’t hurt quite so bad…

P1010556

They are very comfortable and have leather soles, for dancing, and I’m sure it won’t improve my dancing!  My tennis shoes seemed to work just fine.

We stopped at Tiger Direct (drove past it the first two times) to look at a Google Computer with the Chrome OS.  They don’t have them, never seen them but we have to order it through them, sounds OK to me  but I would really like to have seen one and played with it a little bit.  The salesman didn’t know anything about the system but would like to play with one himself.

Stopped at a Mexican grocery store and got some pork rinds, delicious!   They are pretty expensive, $6 a pound so I didn’t get very many.  I’m also pretty sure they are good for you, you know, fried pork fat!

I had Don stop over around 6 PM and we finished putting on the last of the trim by the stove.  Needed two people one to hold the stove and the other to staple  it to the side.

We watched two movies this afternoon, “Here Comes the Boom” something like that with Kevin James and the other was “Impossible” and it was about the tsunami in Asia a few years back.  It was pretty good but showed how things were and it wasn’t good!  (Move was good)

Went to bed pretty early, I have a hard time staying awake in the evening so guess I will say Night Y’all…

Friday February 15th 2012

OK I haven’t been on the computer for quite awhile, I have been putting it off because, well, just because I am kind of lazy I guess.  I am going to try to remember some of the high points during the week.

Can’t really remember what we did on Monday and I guess Linda can’t either!  Well, some of the high points, we went to the Aloe Vera Farm for lunch and a tour, the lunch was chicken and mashed potatoes with string beans and pie for desert.  We went on a tour of the Aloe Vera field..

P1010530

This guy was a hoot!  He is picking the flowers and we got to taste them and they did kind of taste like fresh frozen peas.  In the next picture he put some of the juice (slime) on his hair…

P1010535

I didn’t really notice until now that Sharon and Wayne are rubbing their heads too, I think maybe they had some of the slime on their hands, in fact I think most of us were putting it in our hair.  Supposed to be good for you.

P1010539

This was the wagon they rode in, Wayne and Sharon had a golf cart and Linda and I drove a cart with Cindy and Mary…

P1010541

I thought that this tour was really good.  I would do it again, maybe next year.

We had a valentine dinner which was excellent.  They had country ribs with baked potatoes and the ribs were big and tasted great.

P1010543

We had a good time but these dinners don’t last very long, people don’t stay around, in fact, I think they had games after the dinner. but we went on home and just took it easy.  They had the Thursday night dance at Mission Bell, but we hadn’t planned on going because we figured it would be packed.

We went to Lowe’s and I picked up a couple more pieces of trim for the kitchen and also picked up a compound miter saw.  I had to try it out and it really works great.  I cut all the trim for the kitchen and one piece I had to redo because it was a little bit short but it sure cuts the angles good.  Got a picture of the kitchen…

P1010552

Almost done with the kitchen, still have a couple of pieces of trim to put on but we are almost finished.  Don came over with his air stapler and put all the trim on in just a few minutes.

Today I went to Wal Mart and got a little paint to cover the staples and I finished putting the caulk around the edges.  I was looking at the picture above and you can see the new floor also.  That really turned out great. The floor is solid now and the tile looks great on the floor.

Well, I think we will take it easy tonight and watch some TV even though there isn’t much on but we will probably watch it anyway….Night Y’all.

Sunday February 10th 2013

Nice morning, going to get warm again today!

Went to church this morning at MFBC in Mission.  Pastor Adrian is a good preacher and has some really good sermons.  Today’s was on “Love” again.  Sunday School was also good.

We took it easy the rest of the day, had to turn on the AC this afternoon.  It got up to 90 in here so it was time.   The old record was broken today, got up to around 96 which was almost uncomfortable!  Got just comfortable in here and turned it off around 5PM, it was cooling off nicely outside.

We had a bunch of old shows taped so we watched them this evening.  Not a lot to talk about today.  Guess I will say Night Y’all….

Saturday February 9th 2013

I forgot that last night we went over to Don and Cheryl’s for a little visit. He said he would help with the trim tomorrow, which is today.

Well, I decided to paint this morning.  The cabinets are not very nice.  Have lots of scratches and dirt. I painted some trim first to see what the paint looked like.  Well, it is off white and I am not real sure about it but I think maybe it will be OK.  I started taking off the hardware from the doors.  I can’t believe it, seems like everything is glued!  The hinges I had to pry off with a screw driver and some of the wood came off with it.  We have a couple of doors that have handles and glass inserts.  Well, I broke one of the glass inserts but luck was with me, it broke in two pieces and didn’t shatter!  I had to take the handles off which were also stuck or glued or something.  I used a screwdriver and hammer to get them off, should have taken the glass out first.  Oh well, it doesn’t look to bad with the crack in it and we will get some glue to make sure the window stays together.

Don came over and helped me paint.  Glad he did, he is a better painter than I am.  The paint really doesn’t look to bad.  It definitely isn’t a bright white but it is OK.

I finished putting the hardware back on and only lacked one screw.  Usually I have things left over but not this time.

We went to Wal Mart this afternoon and got a new pan, actually a couple new pans, not sure they will be good but we will try and see.

Tonight I have been trying to download Skype on my phone.  I can’t get it to work on this computer unless it linked to this computer, we will see what happens later.

I think Linda is watching her shows she taped, shows I don’t really care for. She is in the bedroom watching them and I am trying to get caught up with the blog and messing with Skype.  Skype for me isn’t user friendly. I have a really hard time getting it to work.

Time to say Night Y’all….

Friday February 8th 2013

Another beautiful warm day, starts out nice and cool and gets up into the 80s by noon or before.

Linda got up early again today!  She went with Mary and Cheryl to a craft show somewhere, not sure where they went but they were gone until after noon.  Guess they had a good time but Linda is getting tired.  She took a nap and got up in time for Happy Hour.

I didn’t do a lot today, tried cleaning the two pans that we used for the gravy.  They were both burnt and very hard to get off.  The one was a new pan we bought last year and didn’t use it until we got down here this year.  Not a good pan, it is Teflon and a lot of it is gone off the bottom so I think we will have to get a new one sometime soon.

Daryl and Cindy asked if we wanted to go out for Mexican.  Sure!  We love Mexican food.  Went to a place called Danny’s.  John and Judy were the third couple, our next door neighbors. I got Carne Guisada, which in other places it is called Carne Asada and I think they are the same thing but the waitress couldn’t speak English so we tried it anyway, it was very good and Linda just got Nachos which was humongous and it was good, I had to help her eat it.  I really got full.

We had a good time and lots of laughs.

Got home around 7 or 8 PM somewhere in there.

We watched a little TV and then went to bed, we were really tired..Night Y’all…

Thursday February 7th 2013

We have been having some really nice weather, maybe a little warm but we haven’t turned on the AC!  I think it has been in the middle 80s with a really nice breeze blowing.

OK now to figure out what we did today.  OK we went to Lowe’s to get the trim for the kitchen.  We picked up a gallon of paint, off white, and some trim.  They really didn’t have what I would like to have gotten but guess we will probably do with what we got.  We brought Sparky along since it was still cool out but it is starting to warm up!

We got home in time for Linda to go to “Happy Hour” with the ladies.  I did some cleaning and did some things to get ready to paint.

We went dancing tonight, had a good sized group from the park about ten of us I think, had a real good time, did quite a bit of dancing and just a real nice time.

Got home a little after 10PM and took Sparky out.  He spends quite a bit of time by himself down here.  We do a lot more here than we do back home. I think Sparky will like it back home.  Linda stays home a lot more back in Sikeston.

Oh, I forgot, we fixed breakfast this morning, biscuits and sausage gravy so Linda had to get up really early this morning.  There were 24 at breakfast so we had a really good turnout.  We were only expecting eighteen!  I got up around 3:30AM and went to the clubhouse to get the tables set up so I didn’t get much sleep today!

Back to tonight, we went to bed pretty soon after getting home.  It is getting cool out and will be nice sleeping for sure….Night Y’all…

Wednesday February 6th 2013

Today is Linda’s birthday!  I got her up around 6:30AM so she could go with Mary and Cheryl to a craft show!  First thing she said was “this isn’t fun”!  Linda isn’t a morning person!

After Linda left Sparky and I went to Wal Mart for a few things.  I wanted to get a card and a cake for her. She specifically wanted a white cake with butter cream frosting.  I also stopped at Walgreen’s for a box of Cello chocolate covered cherries.

When I got home I did a little more cleaning, trying to get the house back in order again.  Still have a long way to go.

We got to take a nap this afternoon!  It was pretty warm but there was a really nice breeze blowing.  There was a record broken today, got really close to 90, not sure what the record was though.

Went to Excalibur tonight for supper.  Linda invited a bunch to come along.  I think we ended up with about ten people there.  We even got to dance a couple of dances!

P1010518

We left at 8PM and Linda invited most of them over for cake and ice cream.

P1010521

Pink and purple cake!  Tasted good.

I may put another picture of the kitchen in tomorrow, maybe.

Time to say Night Y’all…

Tuesday February 5th 2013

This morning I sealed the grout on the counter.  I had a problem with the sink, it didn’t fit quite right.  The counter was just a little to thick for the clasps that holds it down.  I did get them on but it took a lot of work to do it.

Don and Joe came over this morning and they worked on it for about a half hour !and got it tightened down a little better.  We figured out that the clasps that hold it down had to be bent to get them to fit.  I put the last one on after they left and it worked good.

It has been getting very warm, upper 80s but it is a lot nicer than the lower 50s!  We even leave all the windows open at night and it makes it really nice sleeping!

We went to a jam tonight, it was pretty good.  There is a couple from Minnesota that did a lot of singing. She has a voice like Patsy Cline.  Very good…

P1010508

They have a band back in Minnesota.

This is Sandy…

P1010509

Sandy and Paul are from West Virginia and the next picture is Don and Denise and they are from Canada, Nova Scotia I think, a long drive to get down here!

P1010511

They sang for about two and a half hours I think.  Had a good time.

That was about all for today, time to say Night Y’all…

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

Monday February 4th 2013

Weather is beautiful today, supposed to be in the 80s and sunny!!

Mary is coming over this morning to grout the tile on the counter.  It looks good already but I’m sure the grout will make it look a lot better then I will seal the grout tomorrow.

The grout sure makes a mess.  She did a good job filling all the cracks and they, Mary and Joe, started cleaning.  I kept pretty busy just getting clean water, but I did help clean off the tiles.  It is supposed to be cleaned three times after letting it dry.  It really looks nice while it is wet but when it dries it sure gets a cloudy coat on it.  After letting it dry I used a dry cloth to clean the tiles off but they don’t clean up very well.  Sure looks a lot nicer…

P1010503

Mary is spreading the grout here.  They are very thorough.

I see the time is almost 2:30PM so she has been working for awhile or maybe this is when she came back.  Tomorrow I will put a picture in the blog of the almost finished product.

It is very warm this afternoon, I think it got close to 89 which is the record for today or maybe it was 88, not sure but it didn’t make it.  Close, but didn’t tie the record, maybe tomorrow.

We watched TV tonight and I keep thinking I need to put the sink in.  Well, at 10:30 I finally started it and most everything went wrong.  The clips to hold the sink in are just about a quarter inch to short but I did get them on but the sink didn’t really fit well.  I hooked up the water and the drain and thankfully only had one leak and that was in the drain and it was an easy fix, just had to put in a washer and tighten it back down.  Midnight!  Time to go to bed.  Oh, the faucet works great, just like a new one!!!

Night Y’all….

Monday, February 4, 2013

Sunday February 3rd 2013

Super Bowl Sunday and I don’t even know who is playing.  Linda wants to watch just to see the new commercials but I think they will be repeated later, in fact, this is Monday, and I still don’t know who played and who won!  I’m sure I will see it on TV later.

I am feeling much better even though the cough is still hanging on and Linda is feeling better but hers is still kind of bad.

Our kitchen is coming along great but I am not going to put in pictures of it until it is finished and it should be done tomorrow.

Mary came over around 1PM and we got to finish the back splash and Mary did an excellent job.  She is coming back tomorrow at 8AM to grout the whole thing and then on Tuesday I will seal it and we will then have our kitchen back…YES!!!  We have been without a kitchen now for about a week and a half, seems longer than that though.

I think I have a picture of one of the ladies “Happy Hour” get together..

P1010468

The ladies get together and have a good time discussing things, lots of laughs, I can hear them sometimes!  They are at Cheryl’s place this time.

Well, the kitchen is the big news, right now other than that there isn’t a lot going on around here.  The weather has been gorgeous!  It has been in the seventies and the wind finally quit blowing hard.

We had a bible study last Friday after the coffee, and it was very interesting. Kermit led it and next Friday I guess it will be my turn.  Think we will try to discuss the “unforgiveable sin”.  May discuss more than that though, we will have to see when the time comes.

Well, with the work on the kitchen, the Texas Crud and the surgery I haven’t been feeling the greatest and hopefully I will get back into the swing of things with this blog.  So easy to just let it go and not do it.

Time to say Night Y’all….
