Wednesday July 14th 2010

Another hot and muggy day!   How exciting! The day should go quite easily today.  Nick and Sherry will be working with me, well, actually they will be doing the Lodge I think and I will be at the motel. The new couple, Ron and Barbara are looking at a job in Cherokee, NC.  It is a year around job and will be about 76 miles from where they live. He told Roger that they may go there in October.

They are quite an entertaining couple.  They have been married about 2 years and met on eHarmony.  They are the first people that we have talked to that met online, I think. Well, to get back to the story, they received a phone call today from the campground in Cherokee and they would like them to start right away.  Decisions, decisions!  Guess it wasn’t a big decision, it is close to home, pays more and is supposed to last through the winter.  That is what they were looking for.  Roger wasn’t happy and Robert, well, you have to know Robert.  Ron and Barbara were packing up last night, they didn’t finish the day, and they have LOTS of “stuff”. With the heat and humidity it is hard working outside but they are working to get everything packed are ready to go in the morning. We wish them “happy traveling and a safe trip”.

We got the laundry done last night, in fact it was almost 10PM before we finished. To many people to talk to. Remember the 3 gold dollars.  I met the gentleman in the office this morning, very nice person. I also met him again at the laundry, he would have invited us to dinner if it would have been earlier.  He meant to leave the 3 gold dollars as a tip.

So much for  the exciting day!!!  Nick and Sherry do a bang up job in house keeping. It is nice to have fellow workers that carry their share of the load, plus.  Sure hope they don’t leave!!! Oh, I did go to church tonight at Friendly Baptist Church. Still in Nehemiah. I was tired, sore and still hot but I went anyway.  Keep cool Y’all…..

Tuesday July 13th 2010

Well, it’s going to be warm and humid today.  The weather forecast says that it is going to be a very warm and muggy week.

I went and checked the work load after 8AM to see if I was going to be swamped today.  Doesn’t look to bad, I think I can handle most of it and Johnny Mac is coming in later and he will probably finish what I can’t get. I got to see Wilber before they left but didn’t get to see Bernie. They still don’t know what they will be doing.  I think he may end up driving a school bus.  They have been trying to get him to come back and drive for them.

I got a good start on the rooms at the Lodge and finished the refreshes. This afternoon I will go over to the main park and do the motel rooms. I have been doing the laundry (sheets and towels) as I finish a room.  The dirty basket in the laundry doesn’t have much in it but the clean buggies are full to overflowing. Doing laundry slows me down a little and I have to dig through the towels to finish rooms.  There was a pile of quarters in one of the rooms with a note that said it was a tip. OK.  I figured $2 maybe.  Got home for lunch and took them out of my pocket and voila, three of them weren’t quarters, they were $1 pieces, kind of a gold color. Take a look…

I thought these were interesting.  I had never seen these before. The Indian one, Susquehanna (thank God for spell check) and the Susan B. Anthony I have seen but not these.  I left a note in the room telling them that if they made a mistake I would give them back.  Found out from Ginny that they give them out as change from Silver Dollar City and yes, they are worth $1.  The largest tip I have gotten was $20 from a Cajun. This guy was really funny. Sounded like this was the first trip he had been on and I think he must have been in his 70s. He asked me if I was part of the “family”. I wasn’t sure what he was talking about but I was thinking he meant the “owners” family.  I was right and I told him I wasn’t.  Then he said something that really made me laugh, he said “they usually get Mexicans to do this kind of work”!!!  He kind of went into what they had done and the shows they had seen etc. He said he would take care of me and I told him that fortunately I had the next 2 days off and he took out his wallet and handed me $20!!  That was not expected, I told him he didn’t need to do that but this guy was a real “hoot”.  I didn’t get to see him again but I bet they had a good time.

Back to today and the rest of the happenings.  Roger gave me a ride back to the North Park and on the way he said that Robert had a change of heart and said Linda could come back to work if she chose to or could work a little when she felt like it.  When I told her that she was ready to come back right away. We will see what happens.

We had a loaf of bread that Cristy gave us from the Bradford Inn where we ate Saturday and today we decided to have French Toast for supper. It was really good.  The consistency of the bread was almost like the bread I make, maybe a little heavier so it made good French Toast, actually we had a couple sandwiches with it and it was a little heavy for that, same as my bread.

Going to take it easy tonight, watch TV, again, then go to bed if I don’t fall asleep first.  The heat and work really do a number on me, I feel great but get tired at night.  Talk to you tomorrow Y’all….

Monday July 12th 2010

Wow did we get some rain last night!!  Thunder, lightning, no hail but it sure rained a lot.  It did quit raining before I finished my morning ritual though and I got to walk down to the office without getting wet.

Work load for today is moderate, Wilber and Bernie come in at 11AM so we should get everything done. Here is a picture of Wilber and Bernie..

100_0315

I can’t remember the names of their dogs, the black one is Bandit I think. We had a pretty busy day, not like the day they had Sunday though. Not near the work today.  I wanted to get this picture in because Wilber and Bernie will be leaving tomorrow to go back to Kansas.  We will be back to Nick, Sherry, Johnny Mac and I for the cleaning crews.  If the business keeps up like it has been we will definitely need another couple to help out.

We really have weird weather here, rains for awhile and the sun shines for awhile.  They are predicting severe storms for tonight and there isn’t a cloud in the sky right now.

Not going to do much tonight, I got to finish up the pizza from yesterday. It was still very good.  I’m glad we have 2 TVs!  Linda watched a 3 hour thing on the bachelorette so I got to watch a 2 hour special “AFV”. I also watched house hunters international which was in Australia.  Pretty common house in Melbourne sells for around a million dollars.  Wonder what the food prices are like?

So much for one night. Will catch Y’all in the morning……..

Sunday July 11th 2010

Had a good nights sleep and the day looks like it is going to be nice! I know we have rain in the near future but looks nice right now.

After doing my morning ritual, I walked down to the Lodge office to check out the work schedule for today.  I know I’m not working but from talking to Nick last night there is going to be a boat load of work today.  Nick and Sherry start at 9:30AM and Wilber and Bernie start at 11AM.  I found out that there was 8 turnarounds which is a lot especially with the house being one of them.  I called the main office to see if they may need some help today but Roger and Heidi are off and Robert is out of town.  Thought I would wait until time to  go to church to give them time to call me.  I left about 9:40 and Nick stopped by about 9:45.  They didn’t really need me, they did an excellent job with Bobby’s help.  They didn’t get everything done but that is to be expected. They did finish the majority of rooms especially the ones that were turnarounds and refreshes.

Went to church at The Carpenter’s House.  Had a good service and Sunday School.  There was a singing group, “Simply Praise” from KCFBC this morning and they were very good. Pastor Terry’s sermon was from Colossians 3 about wives submitting, husbands loving, and kids. Also went on to relations between employees and employers.  I like the example of husband and wives coming to an impasse about something and the wife submitting to the husband’s decision…then 3 weeks later saying “I told you so”.

The afternoon was quite relaxing.  Took a little nap then went down to the office again for something to do, coffee wasn’t on so I didn’t get any coffee. That was OK I really didn’t need any. Talked to Maggie and Ginny for a little while before heading back home.  We were waiting for a call from James and Janice.  We are going to meet them at Pizza Hut.

100_0805

This is probably the best Pizza Hut we have eaten at.  The servers are friendly and very helpful.  Linda has a tender stomach and the pizza sauce sometimes bothers her so I asked if the had a white pizza.  They didn’t but she went and asked it they could make one.  They could!!  Instead of marinara sauce they used Alfredo sauce.  Linda got the chicken supreme or something like that and it was very good.   We had an excellent visit with James and Janice.  They are working at the Corps of Engineers at Table Rock Lake.  Here is another picture of James and Janice…now this is strange, I can’t find their picture!!!  I just put it in my blog a couple of days ago and one from yesterday???  Wonder what I did with them???

When we got home Ron and Barbara were sitting out so we stopped to talk to them for awhile.  The wind started blowing and the cool air came in so we figured the rain wouldn’t be far behind.  I was right!  rained a little later.

Oh well, the night was quiet, a little TV and a little ice cream then to bed after the weather….Night Y’all….

Saturday July 10th 2010

This is Saturday our day off!!!  Guess what??? I took some pictures, yes I did!  I made bread this morning but didn’t take any pictures, they look pretty much like last weeks pictures.

After Linda got up and around, we decided to go to look for some batting for our dinette booth seat.  I was looking for the polyurethane foam for the seat but that was kind of expensive and it was only 3 inches and I think I need 4 inches.  Somewhere I will find it.  Think I will Google it.

After that we decided to drive to Table Rock Lake and the Corps of engineers park on the shore.

100_0789

They have a beautiful building and are going to build a nicer one not far from here.  Guess who we saw here???  James and Janice!!

100_0790

We didn’t know they would be working but wanted to see if they were and tried to see Jeremy but he wasn’t in.  Well, maybe later.

Canadian Geese and more pictures from the Corp Park

After walking around the park we headed back home but Linda keeps seeing this bed and breakfast thing so we stopped and I can’t remember the name of the place.  It is on the top of a hill or small mountain and is a very well kept place.  We decided to have lunch there.

100_0801

This is Cristy our waitress.  She wasn’t the owner I don’t think but she could have been.  She was one of the nicest, pleasantest, and most helpful servers we have run across.  Very good sense of humor.

100_0802

Linda got a cheese sandwich and I got the Ozark Mountain Burger.  They were very good.  This came with a pasta salad that was excellent. Cristy also takes a good picture!

100_0804

Linda wanted desert, and no, she didn’t get the whole cake!  It was a chocolate raspberry cake.  We took it home.  I’m not a chocolate cake fan but it was good and VERY rich.

After getting home I was tired so I took a nap.  I couldn’t stay awake but after the nap I sure felt bad.  I got a cup of coffee and walked around the park.  Well, I got stopped by the neighbor who likes to talk. I think I stood there for about an hour and Linda finally got worried I guess and came looking for me.  We went down and talk to Ginny and Johnny Mac for awhile before heading home.  We had a nice day off, relaxing day. Hopefully tomorrow I will find some things to take pictures of like today. Cristy got a kick out of me getting my camera out and taking pictures of the food, etc…. Got to go now… Bye Y’all…

Friday July 9th 2010

OH BOY!!!!  It’s Friday!!  Got tomorrow off,,,YES!!! I went over to the office after 8AM to check on the work load for the day.  Not real good, but with 5 of us working it should be OK.

I was going to add this a few days ago and never got around to it.  Stephanie, from Paw Paw’s Camper place in Picayune, MS called and said she needed the serial number off the furnace.  After looking through papers for it, I told her I would call her back…. This is Stephanie…

101_0107

I’m sure she doesn’t read my blog so she won’t get to mad about this.  I took the cover off the outside of the furnace and got the serial number.  Got the cell phone and called the number she called from..lots of rings, no answer….strange, I just talked to her so I called the number of the phone she is on in the picture.  She asked if I had just tried to call and I said yes and I had the numbers she wanted and I gave them to her. Now for the rest of the story…she said her phone broke, oh my, and then she said she dropped it in the toilet, I had to laugh at that one.  She said it wasn’t funny! She had to reach in that dirty toilet to get it, and sorry Stephanie, I couldn’t keep from laughing. She said she hoped I had a good laugh at her expense, but her parting words were, “don’t take your phone to the bathroom”.  I hope I didn’t offend her to bad, she seems to have a good sense of humor.

Back to today, work went pretty well, Nick and Sherry came in and they said the would do the turnarounds at the Lodge and I would get the cabin turnaround. Wilbur and Bernie came in at 11AM and they got the turnarounds at the main park!  WOW!  sounds like a plan to me. After I finished one cabin I found out another was a turnaround so I did that one. I had 2 other check outs (cabins) so I figured as long as I was there I would do them too.  I did a refresh at the Lodge.  We had a complaint on the room so I took care of that one.  We all finished early. It turned out to be a nice day at work!!!  Oh, I was going to mention that the idea Nick and Sherry came up with for doing the floors works great, saved me a boatload of time and it was a lot easier than using rags and it does a good job.  Thanks Nick and Sherry for the great idea.

We talked to Roger and Heidi and asked them about the show this Thursday.  They are going to get the tickets for everyone that is signed up. Nice, we don’t have to worry about them.  Going to see the Haygoods.  Have no idea who or what they are, going to be a surprise.

Got the laundry done tonight and we watched TV and I stayed up until after 11PM, that is amazing and I didn’t fall asleep sitting here…

My camera feels so neglected….Night y’all…

Thursday July 8th 2010

Here is another cloudy day. I think it is supposed to rain and be muggy again, and it has a real good start.  I walked down to the Lodge Office after 8AM and asked Barbara what was in store for the cleaning crew.  Not a bad day, Nick and Sherry would be working and we have a few rooms and a cabin.  Won’t be a bad day at all.

When Nick and Sherry came in I talked to them and we decided that this afternoon we would do the cabin together so I could explain what I did to clean them.  I asked them if they had any ideas on cleaning the floors.  Yes they did!!  Cool!  That is the hardest part of the cabins so I am looking forward to seeing what their idea is.  The floors in the cabins are wood, parquet I think, not real nice floors, I think linoleum would look nicer and probably be less of a problem cleaning them.  Their idea was simple. Use a rag mop, big rag mop, dampened and then use pine sol for the cleaner. I will have to say that it took a little over 5 minutes to do the whole cabin floor, and it takes me almost 20 minutes except for the strip mop, which didn’t do a good job at all.  Glad they had a good idea. They also have a small vacuum cleaner that we can do the loft with because the loft ceiling is only about 3 feet tall, have to move around on our hands and knees. We finished the cabin in about a half hour where it takes me about an hour. The mop thing will shorten that up somewhat.

Had a really decent day today but nothing worthy of taking pictures of. We don’t plan on doing anything tonight, in fact I took a little nap before going to bed.  Linda fixed the leftover (my favorite meal) macaroni and cheese and put some tomatoes, chili beans and hamburger with it to make chili mac.  Very good!  Anyway, we are staying in and going to watch some TV then to bed……Night Y’all…
