OK, I let the blog go for a few days and I have been trying to get back into the groove and get caught up.

We finished loading the camper this morning and I had a few things to get done before taking off.  I put some Rid-X down the toilet for the septic tank.  We haven’t had any problem with it so hopefully it is doing some good.

I had to spray some vegetation killer on the driveway to kill the grass.  Hopefully it will work.  I didn’t want Sparky walking through the places I sprayed so I put him in the camper and now we wait for Linda.  We always forget something so she is checking to make sure she has everything we will need.  We finally got on the road about 8:30AM I guess.  I had to stop down the road to check the straps and they seemed to do quite well. 

We stopped in St Louis to fill up with gas.  Very expensive!  I know before we left I filled up and the mileage was only 4.9 MPG!!!  That definitely isn’t good.  This fill up was a little better, we averaged a little over 8MPG.  Still not good but better.

We finally made it to Rock Falls around 4:30PM and it was raining, not what I wanted but it isn’t raining hard, just enough to get wet.  I was trying to hook up everything and Linda said we have a problem.  There is a vent in the bathroom that was gone, second time this vent blew off.  Seems to be a problem there.  We are at Leisure Lake Campground and I borrowed a ladder and went to Wal Mart and got some Duct Tape which is what I used the last time.  It will last and keep the rain out until we get home and get another vent lid.  I am going to have to get a vent cover to keep it from blowing off I guess.

Doesn’t look bad here but it is still sprinkling and the grass is really wet and all the hook ups are on the wrong side of the camper!  We will make it work.

Beautiful day, starting out cool and sunny.  I think it may warm up some today but it isn’t supposed to get to warm.

I am sure I am going to be mowing today. The rain really made the grass grow and I want to be done kind of early so I can get home and load some more stuff in the camper and and get the car loaded on the dolly.

Work went quite well, got the RV Park all mowed except for the sites up against the fence.  They are the hardest to mow because there are campers in all most all of the sites and makes it really hard to move the picnic tables plus all the stuff they have in the sites.  I figure the grass will still be there next week.

I left work around 4:30PM and as long as I was already hot, sweaty and dirty it was a perfect time to get the car on the dolly.  I was surprised that the straps don’t fit very good.  It wasn’t easy hooking it up.  One side of the strap is about three inches to long and it is very hard to get the end strap room enough to get it tightened up.  We will see how it works tomorrow.

Linda cut my hair tonight. I was really in need of a haircut.  It was getting to the point I couldn’t hardly comb it anymore.

I get to work in the office today.  I’m not really looking forward to it but it should be ok.

I started out the morning getting things put into the camper for when we take off.  I’m trying to get Linda to get her stuff ready so we can leave pretty early in the morning.  I’m still worried about the battery but it has been holding up pretty good so maybe it just has a small drain or maybe it was just about completely dead from sitting for a few months.  I know that when we go to Texas we will have to remove both batteries so they won’t freeze.  That definitely wouldn’t be good.

Haven’t heard from Jack and Mary so we aren’t sure if the made it back or are having a safe trip.  Guess they will let us know when they get there.

Had a very slow day at work but it still went by pretty quickly. 

When I got home I just took it easy, loaded a few things into the camper and took it easy the rest of the night.

We cleaned house a little this morning and got things ready for Jack and Mary to come in for a visit. I figure they will be in around 3PM, give or take.

I think they finally made it around 2PM and we had a good visit, catching up on all the happenings.  Mary is the person that takes care of the news letter at Seldom Rest Ranch.  They are actually from Kewanee IL which isn’t far from our home in Rock Falls and Dixon.  They spent the summer up there and Jack was ready to come back to Texas a long time ago but there were people to see and things to do.

About 4:30 we took off and went to Lambert’s.  They haven’t ever eaten there before so we figured we would take them.  This makes four times this year for me, about three times to many.  Food is great but for some reason I always eat to much.  Always have stuff to take home for another meal.

We had a great meal and time to talk and watch the guy throw rolls. I think this is the least busy day I have every seen here.  They probably do have slow days but the other three times I was here we always had to wait for at least a half hour but that was good because we had time to sit and talk.

Jack and Mary have a killer dog….

That is Harley!  He must weigh all of four pounds!  Sparky is scared of him, well, Bud, the big black dog also backs away from him!  He actually sounds quite ferocious!   He is almost twelve years old and doesn’t have many teeth left.  He sure gets around though.

We talked them into staying the night with us which is a lot cheaper than staying in a motel!  They were going to go on another hundred miles or so but after we got done eating is was almost dark and staying the night worked out pretty good.

Linda and Mary got to watch some bachelor program and I slept through some of it. We actually went to be around 9:30. I haven’t gone to bed that early since I was sick!

Going to North Acres again today.  I read the Sunday School lesson so I probably should go there.

I had a question about abortion and I asked Pastor Charles and he really had no answer except “Thou Shalt Not Kill”.  That actually is a very good answer but people don’t think a “fetus” is a real person and abortion is OK. He did have a really neat thing he told me… If you are taking your wife or girlfriend to the abortion clinic for an abortion but you were hit by another car and the baby dies because of this, the person could be charged with manslaughter!  Now that is amazing!  I was just wondering what the Bible says on the subject.  Closest thing I found was in Exodus Chapter 21:22-23 and it was just about two men fighting and causing the woman to have her baby prematurely.

Sunday School and Church were very good.  In Sunday School there is always a lot of discussion and lots of different opinions which are very interesting.

After church I had a few things to do and didn’t make it home until 1:30PM.  Linda was getting worried that something had happened to me.  I needed a couple of things which couldn’t really wait until tomorrow because we have company coming and will probably be home most of the day.

Back to church again tonight at North Acres.  Pastor Charles is a very good preacher, very down to earth and easy to understand.

Not a lot going on tonight. Watched a little TV and then to bed.  I have to check and see if I have a picture to post….

It may be hard to see but there is a double rainbow in this picture.  We tried different cameras to take the picture, Linda’s camera’s batteries were all dead and mine doesn’t really take good pictures, like this one.

Like I said my camera doesn’t take good pictures.  This is our song leader or choir director.  She has two different voices, when singing a special she has a very nice voice and when directing the choir she has a very nasal voice.  She is good though.  I don’t know her name either….

Cool out this morning for sure.  I put my hoodie on before going out and am glad I did!  I think it is about 60 but the wind is blowing out of the North at a pretty good clip.

Sparky and I were in and out quite a bit.  Not doing anything but going in and out and enjoying the cool weather.  Opened up the house and Linda says it is going to be good enough to leave it open all day.  High today is supposed to be 74 and that is the lowest high we’ve had since Spring.

Going to work this afternoon and it should be a good day, not to hot and not wet!

Got all my chores done and decided it’s time to get the computer out and download more pictures on the external hard drive.  After learning how to do it it’s pretty easy.  I spent all afternoon, well not all, but quite a bit of the afternoon transferring pictures to the hard drive.  After seeing some of the pictures I had to email some of them just as reminders of good times past!

Got out of work at 7PM and was home by 7:20PM.  We fixed hot dogs for supper.  Was hungry for hot dogs.

Trying to get Linda online but having some problems for some reason.  I tried on mine and it works but not very well.  Must be something about tonight.

Well, not much else going on tonight so I will say “Night Y’all”…

Well, I noticed that I put the wrong day yesterday!!  It wasn’t actually Tuesday, it was really Thursday, hope I didn’t mess with anybody’s mind!

I was going to mention that I can’t change the blog on this computer because I used the other one to write it up.

Today is my day off and I would like to go to Menard’s to use up my credit.  I want to look at a bunch of stuff like bathroom showers and the surround that goes with them.  Also want to look at stuff for a back splash for the kitchen in Texas.  Won’t buy anything here but just want to get an idea.  There are a lot of other things I need to look at, well, actually I just want to look.

We started looking around the store and Linda found a lot of dog treats and a few other things.  I got a can of coffee so so far we haven’t gotten anything that we have needed.  Sure is fun looking around though. 

 

I got a page asking me to come to the “exit” door.  I knew it had to be Linda but wasn’t sure what was going on.  I finally found her and her back is hurting and she had to sit down. Guess I can go even though I didn’t even make it through half of the store!   Lots more stuff to look at but I guess there will be another day.

We went to Steak and Shake for lunch.  Not my favorite place but the food is pretty good.    I had a cheddar cheese burger and Linda go a regular one with everything on it.  They were really good!  I wouldn’t even mind going back again sometime.  I also had a yogurt with fruit and I thought it was pretty good and Linda got a Sundae for desert.  We enjoyed it.

The drive back to Sikeston was hard.  I had a really hard time staying awake.  Linda keeps asking what I want to talk about, well, I would actually take a nap.  Not much of a talker when I’m tired.  We made it back though.

We brought our tablets with us and stopped at McDonald’s for a drink and download a couple of games.  We  were there about an hour I guess.

Got back home and let Sparky out.   There are weather warnings out but it doesn’t look bad here, yet.  It came about an hour later, The wind blew like crazy, lots of thunder and lightning and then we got the rain.  Don’t know how much we got but it was quite a bit in a short time.  This is helping with the draught but it still is not enough.

Well, I played some “Angry Bird” and Linda played one of her new games. I get kind of exasperated with the games because I can’t get them to do what I want them to do.  Just a game!
