Sunday February 6th 2011

Today is Linda’s birthday!!!  I’m not sure if she cares if I say how old she is or not so I won’t say.  She is on medi-care now and I’m sure happy.  We haven’t had insurance for the last 4 or 5 years and she has been pretty healthy except for the blood sugar.

We (Sparky and I) woke Linda up early this morning so we could go over to Tip O Texas for church service this morning.  LaVon had called earlier and wanted us to go out to eat with them.  They treated this morning.  We went to the Echo Hotel again.  They have really good breakfasts…

Got a picture of LaVon and Linda in the Narthex…100_2274

I’m not sure what the hotel is like but the breakfast buffet is great…

We visited for awhile with Don and LaVon then headed back to the camper and took a nap.

We didn’t do much this afternoon, just took it easy.  Actually this is Tuesday and I can’t remember what we did and Linda can’t either so I guess we watched some TV and went to bed.  Night Y’all….

Saturday February 5th 2011

Beautiful sunny day but very chilly.  Car has a lot of frost on it so it is still cold.  The wind isn’t blowing so maybe it will warm up.  Fact is by this afternoon I was sitting outside in the lawn chair and enjoying the nice weather.  It isn’t real warm but the sun was really nice!!

Took a picture of the banana tree here in the park, it didn’t do well…

I heard that it froze two years ago and it came back so maybe it isn’t completely dead.

I think we took it pretty easy this afternoon and just hung out.  We have plans tonight to go to the San Juan Basilica down the road a few miles.  We followed our neighbors, Darrel and Cindy and their friends…

This was really different for us, the music was a Mariachi Band which did an excellent job.  I was surprised because if have heard the Mexican bands before and the are pretty loud but they really were good.  I think I have a picture of them…

The picture isn’t real good but they were really spread out.  I took a video of them playing a song but I can’t find it!!  Got to be here somewhere.  I took it with Linda’s camera.  I will keep searching for it.

After the church service we went to a Mexican restaurant called Garza's.  The food was authentic Mexican and not to bad!!  Linda got taco’s  and I got Carne Quesada and it was pretty good…

I took a picture outside which didn’t turn out.  I should have used a flash I guess.  It was pretty blurry.  We had a good time tonight and made some new friends.  They are talking about coming back next year.  We are also thinking about it.  Darrel and Cindy on the right are from Austin TX and David and Karen are from Michigan close to Ohio.  Had a very good time with them..

Back home at the camper we are going to take it easy.  I had to do some driving in the dark and I don’t really like doing that.

We went to bed at our normal time.  Started getting chilly out again so the furnace got to work again tonight…..Night Y’all….

Friday February 4th 2011

Guess what??? It’s still cold out!  Most everything is covered with ice and it is cold but the sun is supposed to shine today so maybe it will warm up.  The wind is still blowing out of the North at a pretty good clip so it really feels cold outside  It is still in the twenties so will take awhile to warm up. Took a couple pictures so I will see if I have downloaded them…

100_2256

I think this one shows the ice better than any of the others.  This is looking across the road and the weeds and trees are loaded with ice.  It has been falling and probably will continue to fall most of the day.

We don’t have a lot planned, I would really like to go to Burger King, they have wifi and hopefully it will work better than here at Seldom Rest.  We took off about noon and got lost, well, kind of, we took the long route to Wal Mart then down to Burger King.  Actually Burger King isn’t far from here.  Their wifi works great.  I down loaded 4 days of blog in about five minutes.  Takes five minutes here at Seldom Rest to get online.  Linda wanted to try a new sandwich there, it is a jalapeno cheese stuffed Angus burger.  It tasted pretty good but not really worth the price.  After that we headed home and decided to stop at a bakery.  It is a Mexican bakery and the “stuff” looks really good.  We bought a few things and brought them home.

Linda had fixed chili the other day so we had “chili dogs” for supper and a pastry for desert.  Not to bad, different.  We still have more left so will try them tomorrow I guess.

Going to stay in tonight and keep warm.  Not much on TV tonight either, so maybe I will play games on the computer for awhile then go to bed.  Hope everyone is keeping warm!!!  Night Y’all….

Thursday February 3rd 2010

Well, it didn’t warm up any!!  It is cold outside but not snowing or raining.  I figured it was good to fill up with propane today because it is supposed to be cold today, windy and snow or ice. Tonight is supposed to be very cold.

We aren’t going to do much today, just stay in and try to keep warm.  I take Sparky out once in awhile for a walk but he doesn’t even like to stay out very long, the wind is very cold…

100_2252

This is Sparky’s don’t bother me or I will bite you picture!!  It is cool in the camper especially on the floor.  The sun isn’t supposed to shine today here, so it is kind of depressing.  Glad this is only supposed to last  a few days then warm up.

We keep watching the TV and just a few miles East of here it is raining, freezing rain, and here it is still dry and windy and cold.  It is below freezing here in the middle of the afternoon and not supposed to warm up.

About 7PM I went outside and it finally made it here.  The step is icy and the car, on the North side, is covered with ice.  It is cold and blowing so I think we are going to stay in and go to bed early. Night Y’all

Wednesday February 2nd 2011

It is COLD here!!!  The wind is blowing and it’s cloudy, reminds me of Illinois!  We filled up with propane yesterday and glad we did, I know that we will use a lot the next couple of days.  I am going to fill up again tomorrow just to be sure because tomorrow is supposed to be colder than today and then maybe, maybe Friday it will warm up.  Looking at the weather map it looks like it is almost as cold here as it is in Sikeston!!  Sunday is supposed to be back in the 70s though so I guess a little cool weather is OK.

We took off and went to Foy’s Market to look around.  We didn’t go for anything special just to look.  I thought they would have a really good meat department but it just didn’t look good to me.  I want to pick up a couple really nice steaks but haven’t found a good place to get them yet.

We also went to HEB to look around.  Picked up a few things and looked at a few other things.  They have some really good sales and we tried to make use of them.

Linda made a batch of chili today and it is really a good day for it. Oh, we bought some Mexican cookies.  The ones that look like a tortilla with sugar on it was excellent.  We tried some of the others but they weren’t nearly as good.

We got to watch some TV tonight, to cold to go swimming, not that we would, we don’t indulge in using the pool even if it is heated!

I have three blogs to post now and I can’t get them to download to the internet so we may have to make a trip to McDonalds or Burger King to get them downloaded….Night Y’all….

Tuesday February 1st 2011

February already, the time is really going by fast.  I was told when I was young that the time would go faster when I got older but I really didn’t think then that it would…I was wrong, time really goes by fast.

Well, this morning it is windy and quite warm yet.  The wind switched directions and is out of the north but it is still warm.  I am wearing a sweater but it doesn’t take much to make me cold especially with the wind blowing.

We went with Dale and Velda to Pulga today and walked up and down the isles checking out all the goodies.  I have been checking out double edged axes and single edges axes or mauls.  I found some the last time and I should have gotten them then.  I couldn’t find them this time.  I almost bought three new ones but we were two dollars different and I figured that I would be back again.  I got Linda some of her favorite perfume.  Obsession. I didn’t think they would have it at a flea market but they did and the price was a lot better than Wal Mart!  Well, maybe not a LOT better but better.

We stayed there for about two hours.  The wind was really blowing and it was getting kind of dusty and we were getting tired so we headed back to the camper.

When we got back Judy came around with some of those humongous lemons…

100_2248

The people in the park have been picking the fruit because of the cold weather coming.  It is supposed to freeze tonight so I guess that would ruin the fruit.

Velda with her “lemon” job…

100_2250

We took a nap this afternoon and it was really warm in our camper and I had it opened!  It isn’t hot outside but the sun really warms up the camper.

I had some potatoes under the camper and an onion that wasn’t doing well in the refrigerator so I fried them up.  Good stuff!!!  As the evening went on it started getting cooler in the camper. I closed the camper when the sun went down and by the time we were ready for bed it was chilly in the camper.  I fixed up the sewer hose so I could leave the water trickled tonight but didn’t want to turn the water on just yet.  We also set the furnace up a little so it wouldn’t freeze in here.

Got to watch our favorite Tuesday night shows so we got our TV fix for the night.  Catch you tomorrow Y’all…..

Monday January 31 2011

It isn’t cold out but windy and it is good weather for a sweatshirt.

We don’t have anything planned for today will probably just stay home and enjoy the weather while it lasts.  Took a lot of walks with Sparky.

Went to Peter Piper Pizza and had lunch with the group from Seldom Rest, wonder if they would call this a “pizza klatch”??  Had a pretty good time there, the pizza isn’t to bad and I think there were probably 20-25 people there from the park or friends of the group.

We went to Wal Mart afterward, well, we stopped at a laundromat  to wash a quilt and sheets.  The laundromat was pretty good, not real expensive and definitely not crowded.  Linda was watching a program on a humongous TV that was in Spanish.  I had to laugh at the program, not because I couldn’t understand what they were saying, but it was a stupid program.  Contestants did stupid things and some of them were scared to do some of the things.

Got a picture of Tucker, our neighbors dog…

100_2241

Tucker is a nice dog, doesn’t like to walk down the camper steps so Dale built some new steps for him.  I think he is still scared but does a lot better.

After going to the laundromat then to Wal Mart we went on home to relax the rest of the day.  Got to watch my programs on TV tonight so I was happy.  Got to get up early tomorrow to get propane for the upcoming cold snap… Night Y’all….
