Thursday October 7th 2010

Today is Brenna’s birthday!!  Happy Birthday Brenna!!  I won’t say how old you are either, thought that would be tacky.  Bren’s mother called and asked her to come over for breakfast this morning and she said she would but had a meeting at the school where Alexa attends.  Jake got to stay home with me.  We played games and then went out to ride bicycles! We had a pretty good time!..

After we finished playing games and riding bikes we got the stroller out and I took him to the grocery store.  Had to get a gallon of milk and it is probably about a mile round trip, give or take a little.  Had a good walk but I had to keep him awake, I didn’t want him to go to sleep on our little excursion so I had to stop once in awhile and tickle him.

In the afternoon we were all tired and we took a pretty good nap.  Glad I didn’t let Jake sleep on our walk!

Linda is fixing Brenna’s favorite dish, or one of her favorite dishes, turkey casserole (made with chicken) and a rhubarb cake with a white vanilla sauce.  Very good but the rhubarb was really firm, not like the rhubarb from Illinois.  Still tasted good and I gave Jake a piece of the rhubarb (raw) and he liked it!!  He also liked the cake but not the sauce.

We also found out today that Jacob will be home on Saturday the 16th so we will have a little get together and Linda will make her “famous pork burritos”.  We also found out that Brenna has a meeting to go to in Chicago around the time we were planning on leaving but we told her and Darin we would be glad to stay a couple extra days to help with the kids.

I’m trying to think now if I had said anything about our camper the last couple of days.  HMMM… Well, I called Gulfstream and they said they hadn’t heard anything from Paw Paw’s Camper.  HMMMM..I just had to call Paw Paw’s again and ask them.  They said all the things I had listed were already Okayed!  I had to ask him to tell me what they were and he started listing them and I told him that I had asked Steve from Gulfstream about one of the items and then he said they hadn’t gotten it into the shop yet.  Now that is a BUMMER!!!  Been there over 3 weeks and not in the shop yet.  After they get it into the shop it will take another 2 or 3 weeks just to get Gulfstream to OK the problems that need fixing.  Guess we will go to Missouri for the election then back to Picayune.  I could probably get the problems fixed myself a lot faster than they can.  I am sure they won’t fix most of them or at least some of them and I will have to take that job on myself.  Oh well, I’m not to worried about getting it fixed but it is under warranty and if they can fix it more power to them, it will save me some money.

PS this is just a little something I wanted to add.  We don’t see many exotic fruits but these Pomegranates really look weird….

100_1475

They don’t all hang around like this but a lot of them do.  Wonder why the stem comes right out of the fruit and the head or bottom or whatever it is comes out of the side???  Weird….

OK enough for today…have a great one y’all…..

Wednesday October 6th 2010

This is really something!!!  I didn’t get on the computer early, now I am going to have to rack my brain to remember what we did today!!!  I feel a headache coming on already!

Let me see, I think I woke up this morning, I must have gotten up, yesterday’s blog is done so I know that I did that, what else did I do today???  Today is Brenna’s day off so I know she stayed home and so did Jake.  OK, Jake and I rode bicycles while Brenna went to the store.  In the afternoon we went to look for a super wal mart and couldn’t find it.  The computer had the address and directions.  Bren followed the directions and we used the Tom Tom and we both ended up in the same place.  It wasn’t a super wal mart!  We tried another address and it wasn’t there either.  Bren went back to pick up Alexa and we went to El Cajon to the wal mart there.  Well, it really wasn’t a super wal mart either. Not sure if they have super wal marts here or not, we haven’t seen one.  We drove through a lot of places we have never been and probably will never go again.100_1473

Can you guess what the name of this store is??  Yep it is a 99 cent only store.  We have one close to us but this was a different one so we thought we would try it.  Didn’t show us much…

Jake picked out a flower for Linda…Now I can’t remember if it was today or yesterday!!!

100_1479

Isn’t that a gorgeous flower?  I think he picked it out all by himself!  Good job Jake.

On the way back from our little excursion we stopped at a Mexican restaurant called Cotixan.  This is their favorite for Carne Asada Burritos…

100_1474

Linda got one that was a little different.  It was a breakfast burrito, bean, cheese and egg.  It was pretty good also, she like it.  The kids had rolled beef tacos or taquitos, not sure how to spell that.

We watched the rest of the move “Bedtime Stories” with Adam Sandler.  It was actually a pretty good movie.

I think Linda and I stayed up and watched a couple of episodes of Law and Order before going to bed.  Oh, today was rainy and cool, supposed to change tomorrow… Hopefully I will get on the computer earlier tomorrow so I can remember what we did!!! Bye y’all….

Tuesday October 5th 2010

It is cool and rainy today, feels good.  We aren’t planning on doing to much today, going to the store to get a few things but other than that we will just stay home.

When we got done at the store I noticed the temperature on the car and it was 63 degrees and by the time we got home it was 61 degrees.  A little chilly but we can live with it.

I tried calling Paw Paw’s again and same thing as yesterday.  They don’t know anything and they don’t call back. I tried calling Steve Tobias at Gulfstream and they weren’t there and didn’t call back.  This is just about like last Spring!!  I’m not in any hurry to get it, but I would like to know what they are going to do.  I’m sure Steve from Gulfstream won’t tell me, he doesn’t seem to know what is going on either.

Linda and I made homemade pizza tonight.  Turned out pretty good, even smelled like a pizzeria! It all got eaten too.

TV night tonight. NCIS, NCIS Los Angeles and the Good Wife.  Today is a short blog!  Maybe I will write more tomorrow……

Monday October 4th 2010

It is cool and rainy today.  We slept good last night, window open and fan on, nice and cool!!

We don’t have a lot to do today, I wanted to go to the Bank of the West where we have our camper financed to check and see how to get online and see what we owe on it.  We got the address off the computer for the branch in Santee and put it in our Tom Tom.  We have been there before but it has been close to a year and we aren’t real sure how to get there. I am just amazed at the directions.  The bank is on a divided street and the Tom Tom took us one block past and around the block and right to the entrance of the bank, amazing!

It took awhile for them to figure out how to do it and we aren’t sure yet if it is done right because I haven’t checked my email.  They had it all set up but the Corporate headquarters has to check out all the information to make sure it was really us.  They also gave us a number to call and we can check the balance that way.

We wanted to stop at Wal Mart and of course we couldn’t find the one in Santee until we were on the freeway and then it was to late.  There are a couple of Super Wal Marts here and I think the one we saw may have been a super one.  Not going back to check.

We went to a little grocery store called Henry’s.  This is kind of a specialty store and we wanted to check for rhubarb.  They had it!!!  It was fresh, not frozen!!  Linda is going to make a rhubarb cake.  I will have to take pictures when she does it.

I have a favorite Mexican Restaurant here, it is called Cotija’s. They have the best burritos there, YUMMMMY!

100_1470

I like the California Burrito.  They have french fries and all kinds of stuff in them.   Linda and I shared one, way to much for one person.

After getting back home I peeled some potatoes and onions for “voila” fried potatoes and onions!!!  We had fish sticks with them and it was a pretty good meal!

Not going to do much tonight.  We have gotten into the show “The Event” which still reminds me of Jericho but we can see already what is going on, at least some of it.  We also like the show “Castle”.  We will watch it today on Hulu.  Didn’t think I would ever watch TV on the computer.  Didn’t think I would ever write a blog either but it has come in handy, I looked back a couple of weeks to see when we came out here or something like that.

Paw Paw’s.  I would have to look back farther in the blog to see when we left the camper there, but I have called a couple of times and guess what?  They haven’t even gotten it in the shop yet!  I think it has been close to a month now and they are still waiting to hear from Gulfstream.  I think I may have to call Gulfstream and start pestering them.  I’m not in any real hurry but it would be nice to have it done.  We will probably stay in Picayune for awhile and make sure everything works.

Well, y’all have a great day, night, evening or whatever…be happy, don’t worry!!

Sunday October 3rd 2010

We got up kind of early today.  Linda and I are going to go to church with Kim at the “Rock”.  Miles McPherson is the pastor there and I think he used to be a football player but I’m not sure. I took a couple pictures there..

100_1393

The church is really big.  When we went in we went up the stairs around several corners and then down again.  I’m not sure how big it is but Kim said that it was built to the dimensions of the Ark.  If it was, the Ark was humungous! I took a couple pictures inside….

100_1397  100_1400

The service today wasn’t a preaching service but was out of Ephesians where Paul said God gave some apostles, some prophets, etc for the equipping of the saints…. The gentleman with him is the representative for the 2nd ward where the church is.   The church has 102 ministries, all volunteer, and they did 160,000 hours of community service last year and they are on track for 200,000 hours this year.  They have three services in the morning and two in the afternoon.  The picture of the sanctuary above is a little early.  It was full.  Not sure how many it seats but I think they have a congregation of about 15,000.  Very large church and doing a lot for the community.

In the afternoon we stopped and picked up Dave and decided to go to the Cafe Coyote.  Mexican restaurant. The food was good and so was the music…

100_1407

After lunch we had to decide what to do for the day.  We tossed around different suggestions like mountain biking, air show etc.  We needed to stay out of the sun for awhile, even though at this time it was overcast.  We decided on the “Air and Space Museum”.  I’m glad we did.  I could have spent a few more hours in there watching the videos they had.  Got to see a great video of the Blue Angels and another of Amelia Earhart. They were very interesting and informative.

100_1419   I’m not sure if the cowling over the engines in all of these planes were like this but the design was really beautiful!

100_1409

I thought the space capsule was interesting.  It held two people and weighed in at 11,000 lbs.  The tire in front was from the space shuttle.  After going through the museum we went to the beach, well, it wasn’t a beach but was beautiful there, great scenery….

100_1464

Looking East towards downtown San Diego and the next one is looking West towards Cabrillo and the marine layer coming in off the ocean…

100_1467

The afternoon was cool and breezy and I’m sure at the air show it wasn’t!  We really enjoyed the day and with all the walking and fresh air we were ready to call it a day.

Brenna had taken Alexa and Jake to Awanas and they made it home about 7:30PM.  Alexa got sick and they were both wore out.  Jake got sick a little later, feel really bad for the kids but I think it may have been exhaustion from all the days activities.

We stayed up for awhile but went to bed about 9PM, time to rest and relax and try to get a good nights sleep…Catch you on the flip-flop….

Saturday October 2nd 2010

Saturday and it is pretty nice this morning.  Cloudy but not foggy like yesterday.  Will be a good day for the air show.

Linda and I went to O’Reilly auto parts and got a new headlight for Dee’s van.  Will change it today when she comes over.

Linda is fixing taco’s for lunch today.  Should be good.  Smells good!  Dee and the boys, Kedric and Jared, came over about 11AM I think and we had lunch. The tacos were good.  Kim came over later.  Got a couple pretty good picture of Dee and the boys…

100_1373

This was taco time, look at Linda’s face.  It is really red from the sun burn.

100_1380

100_1379

The boys don’t like to quit playing.

Here is a picture of Jake really busy painting.

100_1376

Bren did some face painting on them a little later in the day….

100_1390

Like the butterfly?

100_1387

“I Love Mom”!!

100_1386

Jake playing in colored shaving creme.  Helmet on ready for anything….

We are taking  it easy tonight, watching a “Chuck” program on Hulu.  Incredible what you can do with a computer!!  We are tired again tonight so will hit the hay.  Going to go to church tomorrow at the “Rock” with Kim.  Miles McPherson is the pastor there and we would like to see what it is like… Time to say adios y’all…..

Friday October 1st 2010

Now is just erased the first paragraph and a half that I had started, it was about how fast this year is going by.  Seems like just a few days ago we started back from San Diego in our new camper, got a job at CRC and finished there, went to the family reunion and ended up back in San Diego again!  Glad I am keeping the blog because I have a hard time remembering when things happened so I can now go back through the blog and check it out.

OK today is the air show at the Marine Base at Miramar.  We got up early and got ready.  It is really foggy out and hopefully the air show will still go on.  When we parked I took a picture of a military transport plane and a couple of the Blue Angel jets on the tarmac…

100_1364

After looking at this picture it is the Blue Angel jets and a C130 called “Fat Albert” which is the support plane for the Blue Angels.  The picture is good, it is really foggy!  We had to walk about 2 miles from the parking lot to the bleachers where we sat and I think Linda was about done in by then. It was a very long walk.  Wonder what it will be like on the way back??? I took more pictures later, after the show started and I took a lot of video, unfortunately I couldn’t tell if I was getting anything in the video or not.  The clouds cleared about noon and the air show started.  There were a couple of things that were cancelled because of the weather but a lot of things were still going to happen…

100_1902

This is one of the Canadian Snow Bird planes being towed into the parking position.  I will have to say the Snow Birds put on a great show and the announcer told everything they were going to do in advance so you could watch where they were coming from.  Even in the afternoon with clear skies it was still hazy and hard to see very far.

100_1909

This was a pyro technique display that was without the air power.  It was to overcast for the planes to fly so they just set off the charges and you could feel the concussion and the heat even from as far away as they were.

100_1915

This is one of the better pictures I took to the Snow Birds.  The planes are small two seaters but the did an excellent job of formation flying.

100_1921

This is “Fat Albert” again. The day turned out beautiful but without sunscreen Linda and I kind of got to “medium rare”.

100_1935

The “Blue Angels” doing their thing.  This is one of the best pictures I took of them.  They weren’t in the sun.  A lot of the maneuvers were in the sun and we couldn’t see them.

I took a lot of video there and am anxious to see if I got anything.  It was almost impossible to see anything on the view finder so I just guessed at a lot of it.

Well, when we decided to leave we started walking and Linda was already beat. Not good.  We have about 2 miles to walk and it is hot and we are sun burnt already.  Linda made it about a mile and I asked a Marine if she could wait there while I went and got the car.  He was very nice and pointed to a bus stop, in the shade, where she could wait.  Good thing, it took me about forty five minutes to get the car and get out of the parking lot.  The drive home took about a half hour which wasn’t bad considering the traffic.

We are going to relax, in fact Linda took a nap.  I had to take a shower, I really felt grungy!  I felt good after that but Linda wasn’t feeling to good. The sun burn didn’t help a bit.  We went to bed early, I couldn’t stay awake.  Hopefully we will feel good tomorrow.  Sunday Kim and Dave want to go, we sure don’t feel like it but if it is under a tent we may do it….If we make it through the night I will write more tomorrow…..
