Wednesday August 4th 2010

I think I have a problem!!!  I forgot Tuesday!!  I don’t see it anywhere, wonder if I slept through it???  I remember that we worked with Nick and Sherry Tuesday and unless I posted it that is about all I remember. Time sure flies when I’m in a trance.

Today Linda and I work with Johnny Mac.  The workload isn’t bad at all. and I know we can get through it with no problem.

Before going to work though I needed to bake bread.

100_0915

The cinnamon rolls look a lot better than they tasted.  I think I baked them to long and they just weren’t sweet enough for me. Haven’t tried the bread yet but it looks good. Linda and I usually have a slice of toast for breakfast and we only have 2 slices left. Again I had to use the convection oven three times to bake all this.  I don’t mind doing it three times but it gets kind of warm in here even though it is early in the morning.  Sure wouldn’t want to do it at night!!

We had a good day at work, got all the rooms done and the laundry almost all done.  Johnny Mac was going to finish the laundry at the Lodge.

Hey Nick, I washed two mop heads!!!  Not a good idea.  I got one untangled and the other we may have to throw away.  These mops are like really cheap (material)!  The newer of the two is really bad, not sure if we will get that one untangled or not. The good thing about it is they are clean!

Linda got a call from Dr Moore.  Dr Moore is the one she was supposed to see Monday. I didn’t want to go but she made the appointment for tomorrow evening so I guess I will take her.  He wants to make sure that she has no underlying problems with the hypoglycemia. To go back to yesterday, we were cleaning a cabin and Mark stopped in to look at it and Linda was having a little spell. He said something about Missy having that problem and it was low blood sugar.  I asked if she had the blood test kit and she does so he asked her to come over (their camper is about 50 feet away) and she checked Linda’s blood sugar and it was 58 which I guess is kind of low.  Back to today, Dr Moore wants her to come in to check her. This is good, she may have an underlying problem and hopefully we will find out for sure what is going on.

We were in the office and on the way out I saw a Bee. Whoopie!!! Who cares??? Thought I would take a picture of it anyway….

100_0917

Well, the picture isn’t hardly worth printing.  Bummer!  Thought it turned out nice but is sure is blurry. The good thing is if I need the number for the office I can look at this picture!!!

We fixed chili dogs for supper.  Used Hebrew National this time.  First time. They are OK but I prefer Nathan’s. The chili is canned and not to bad, of course I like most anything.

Relaxing night, not going to do anything, actually it is to hot to do anything. The weather is supposed to be a little cooler tomorrow and rain I think.  It made it up over 100 here and when you got a little breeze it didn’t feel to bad.  Time to get some sleep….

Monday August 2nd 2010

Today is Linda’s appointment with the Doctor. We have made arrangements to go into work late.

We drove over to the clinic, which getting started late didn’t help, taking the longest route didn’t help, not being able to find 3rd Street didn’t help. I did stop and ask directions though, that did help! We finally got to the clinic and went in and the room was almost full.  Linda told the receptionist we had an appointment and she said that it was first come first served. Linda filled out the paperwork and we waited until she got to it then she called Linda over (we’ve been there about a half hour) and told her that they didn’t do eyes or dental.  This didn’t help the day any.  We decided to get the paperwork back and wait to see an eye doctor which we probably should have done in the first place.

Got back and went to work about 11AM I guess. We actually had a pretty busy day cleaning a couple rooms and four cabins, kept us busy. At the end of the day Roger stopped by where we were working and gave us some news. The cabin (cozy) had had a complaint. The people were in there for 4 days and they said the floor was dirty and they got their socks dirty.  HMMMM…. Wonder if they are trying to tell us that things are slacking off and it is time to start hounding us. I wonder if we had other complaints that we didn’t hear while we were so busy that we probably missed stuff.  We don’t hear a lot of good reports that is for sure. Oh well, 27 more days!  I will have to say though that Roger made light of it and tried to make us feel good.  Guess we don’t really take negative criticism well.  All in all, it hasn’t been a real good day.  Maybe tomorrow.

Just going to relax tonight watch some TV and try to get rested up.  The heat is doing a number on both of us, probably all of us….

Sunday August 1st 2010

This is the first day of August, will have 29 days left now!!

I went down to talk to Maggie, I already new that we had a full day ahead of us plus probably more that hadn’t been put on the sheet. I was right, the house was a turn around and so were two cabins and not sure if more were added after we started working. The house is nice but it is big, it is a 3 bedroom house with a sofa bed and a futon. Linens are supplied for everything plus towels etc. I think the hardest part is to round up all the laundry. It is usually spread all over the house, under furniture, in closets, under beds etc.  We really don’t have enough matching “pretty” stuff for a complete change so some things have to be laundered which isn’t a fast process since the laundry is about a football field away. Sorry but the “pretty” stuff we put in there didn’t match very well. Next time maybe it will.

We worked through lunch to get the house done before check in time at 2PM and found out that Nick and Sherry also worked through their lunch. We quit at 4PM and I’m not sure what time Nick and Sherry quit, they were still working when we went home.  We both have a boatload of laundry to do. There is always tomorrow.

I was outside putting some bottled water in the little refrigerator and I saw what I thought was a leaf, but it moved.  It was something I hadn’t seen before, quite a different looking green bug, wonder if it is one that make all the noise we hear all night and all day???

Doesn’t really look like a locust or a grasshopper, not sure what it is..

We went to church tonight and met James and Janice there. Went out to Pizza Hut afterwards for some pizza and pasta.  Linda got a three cheese pasta or macaroni and I had an Alfredo Chicken pasta dish.  Mine was pretty good, Linda’s was almost to rich to eat.  Had a good time. James has a Doctors appointment later, he has a couple lumps that he is kind of worried about, don’t blame him.

The waitress, Tonya, was a hoot, she had a different way of delivering the food!!

100_0913

Actually she posed for this at my request.  She happened to be cleaning the floor with the broom.

100_0912

I would imagine “goofing around” makes the time go a lot faster. Don’t like a waiter or waitress that doesn’t smile, seems like they don’t want to be working or talking to you or taking care of you either.

Well, after eating to much again it was time to go on home to the camper and relax. Oh, after moving Friday, Bobby, Maggie’s husband, was checking camping sites and went back and told Maggie that “Joel and Linda” left!!!  He then told Roger the same thing and Roger asked if there were any sites occupied that weren’t supposed to be, he said he thought maybe one so he had to come check on us.  Later in the day I heard Bobby on the radio and I had to get on there and say “oh Bobbyyyy, I’m back”.  He didn’t say anything but stopped at the cabin where I was working.  He was really worried that we had left!  Nice to be missed. Hope Y’all have a great August…..

Saturday July 31st 2010

This is the last day of July!! Our countdown will start tomorrow! August 30th should be 30 days, give or take a couple.

The day is starting out nice, it is sunny and warm.  I told Nick I would help them today. After seeing the list of refreshes it looks like it may be a long day.  Nick asked if I would do the refreshes and cabin in the main park which is fine, doesn’t seem like much with the list we have but I will give it a try.  I stopped to see Maggie before going to work and I did the two arrivals at the Lodge which looked like they had already been done. I got the cart and went to the main park and started doing the refreshes because the Deluxe Cabin hadn’t checked out yet, in fact I was almost done before they checked out so it worked out great. I finished the main park about 11:30 then went over and helped with the Lodge until lunch time. Hope it was somewhat of a help to Nick and Sherry.

After lunch Linda and I went to the $100 store to look around.  I’m not sure why we went there but we did.  On the way we stopped at Indian Point to look around.  That place it big.  I didn’t even know it was there. Lots of motels and RV Parks down there.  It seems to be a long ways from everything though.

Our little refrigerator outside works pretty good (in the shade Nick). I had put some ground pork in the freezer and then took it out this morning and just left it in the refrigerator to keep it from freezing to hard.  It was pretty well frozen tonight when I wanted to grill it.  We brought our little George Foreman Grill from home (got it for Christmas) and this is the first time that I have used it.  Works great!

100_0905

Wondered why my hand was in the picture, oh, I am holding the lid up!  The juice from the pork attracted the bees. Not sure what kind of bees they were but they would get in the drip tray and drown. Now for some reason drown doesn’t look right but my spell check says it is OK. I don’t have a dictionary to look it up either.  So much for that. We really like the pork burgers, got to much salt on these but they still tasted good.

We took it easy the rest of the night, watched some TV and relaxed.  I got tired before the weather but I’m sure they said it was going to be hot and humid.  Probably didn’t miss very much. Y’all have great dreams……

Friday July 30th 2010

Today is our day off!!  Going to let Linda sleep in this morning. I have my morning ritual and then down to the office to see Maggie. Maggie is an up beat person, she laughs at almost everything. That is a good way to get the day started.  Nick and Sherry are going to have a pretty hectic day. The main park has the most turn around rooms.  I stopped by to see Nick on my way back home and asked if they needed help.  He said no, that someone over on the other side would have to help. Before I left Roger stopped by and he said they would get the other side if Nick and Sherry could get the Lodge. Worked out quite well, maybe I won’t have to work Saturday!!

Wanted to get a picture of this loaf of bread.  I think it looks pretty good. Has a hole in it where I folded it and it didn’t stick but still looks pretty good and tastes good too!!

100_0902

Linda got up (later) and we got ready to go to the $100 store.  After getting groceries and walking back out to the car I decided it was pretty hot and I may as well move the camper today since I wasn’t working and really didn’t have anything else to do.  I really didn’t want to move it, not sure why but Nick kind of shamed me into it.

100_0904

The space is #23 and we were in #25.  Didn’t move far but we are in the shade most of the day. It cooled of nicely after we got set up even though the air conditioner never stopped working during the move.  I started the generator and kept the air running.  Linda couldn’t figure out why the clocks kept time.  That was it and I also found out that the generator would run the air and the microwave at the same time.  I figured it would but had never tried it. With everything running it makes the generator work pretty hard but that is good for it to keep it in good working condition.

After Nick got off work he stopped by and showed us tomorrows sheet.  Lots of check marks on it.  I think every room in the Lodge and motel were on there plus all but one cabin in the main park and the house were on it. Need help Nick???  Duh!!  I am going to do the main park and he and Sherry will take care of the rest and what they can’t get I’m sure Johnny Mac will take up the slack.  We will see tomorrow how it works out.

Linda was really tired today, hopefully she will get rested up before Sunday. We watched a little TV and I worked on the computer for awhile before going to bed.  Y’all have a splendiferous day OK???

Thursday July 29th 2010

This month is almost over!  Summer is going fast, won’t be long and we will be heading back home.  Looking at the calendar I believe our last day will be four weeks from this coming Monday. According to Roger and Heidi next month is supposed to be a lot slower.  We will see.  We told Heidi this morning that we probably wouldn’t be back next year and I definitely wasn’t going to sign a contract or commitment.  We told her that if we decided later on we would give her a call.  To much work for an old man. I’m not going to call her an “old lady”…..

Our workload for today wasn’t to bad except for the cabins and Nick and Sherry were on the third one before we even left for work!! I saw them a couple of times and Nick was sure sweating, it is hot and muggy, think I’ve heard that before!  I think they finished just after noon with all the cleaning and supplying the cabins with linens…THAT WAS FAST!!!   We spent a lot of time over at the main park and started on the house. When Johnny Mac stopped for their break (split shift) we went back to the Lodge and did the refreshes and one of the check outs.  Johnny still had one room left to do plus he was going to finish the laundry.  As busy as Compton Ridge is, we are still a little short of help for the crazy times like this week and next week.  Almost all of the check outs will be on Monday.  That probably gives us a lot of time to finish them.  I don’t think they have to many coming back in.  All in all I guess we had a pretty good day, got everything done and I was in a better mood.

Linda has an appointment on Monday to see the Doctor about her eyes. Not sure if they will say anything, she has been OK now for 3 days. Still going to take her in though.

After work we were going to go to Wal Mart and on the way out we decided to stop at “Pepper Bellies” a Mexican restaurant to try it out. I had to go out and take a picture of Pepper Bellies.  I am standing right behind our camper taking this picture.  We drove down which would actually be a very short walk…..

This is Belinda, our waitress and Chris, he wanted to be in the picture.  The food was pretty good, Linda got nachos and I got a green chili Verde burrito.  They were pretty good.  After eating we decided to go back home though.  Didn’t feel like going shopping then so we went back home and relaxed.  Will probably feel more like shopping tomorrow.  I think we may go to bed early…..Night everyone……

Wednesday July 28th 2010

Today should be a good day.  I checked with Ginny and the workload for Linda and I is heavy and I know we won’t get it all done but we will make a good stab at it.  Can’t remember now what all has to be done, I know 3 turnarounds and a few check ins and three other check outs plus some refreshes, about 6 I think.  Could be worse.

I got up early and thought I would make bread, we used the last of our cinnamon bread yesterday so need to have something for breakfast.

100_0892

The bread turned out quite well, not sure what it tastes like but it looks good. Cinnamon rolls look different.  Our oven is a convection oven and the round pan is from the convection oven and works great for nine rolls.  I had to use the oven 3 times for this. I had tried putting one loaf pan on top of another and it worked but the bottom pan didn’t quite get done and this loaf of bread would have touched the top of the oven.  Didn’t take long, about 45 minutes I think, about 15 minutes per item.

Back to work.  Nick had a plan for Thursday to get all the cabins done and furnished with linens before the check in time. So much for plans. That started the day out bad and from there it just got more depressing.  I was almost to the point yesterday I really didn’t care if anything got done.  May have been the heat but was probably my mood or just getting tired.  We finished the day though and still have 3 check outs for tomorrow and one of them is the house.  The house really doesn’t look bad it just takes a long time to do.

Linda and I are going out to eat with Daniel and Rachel.  Think we are going to the Golden Corral.  I should have taken a picture of the sign because I’m not sure if that is the correct spelling.  We  went over and took a couple of pictures of their car that they are trying to sell then came back over to our camper and put them on an email and Rachel sent the email to the interested party.  Sure hope it works out for them. They are trying to get a pop up camper and this one has air conditioning.  Linda and I were surprised at the restaurant when our neighbor from Sikeston came up and said “Hi Neighbor”.  You just don’t expect to see people from back home but it is a small world, and Branson is packed!!  Probably other people here that we know but that was a really pleasant surprise!!

The food at the Golden Corral was really good!  I was surprised.  The last time we ate at one of them was probably fifteen years ago.  We found out why we don’t go to all you can eat places like that, we definitely ate to much.  After the good meal and conversation with Daniel and Rachel we went back home.  I was plum tuckered!!  Linda was stuffed!!  I had to go to bed, she didn’t want to but did and she had some problems during the night.  Woke up about 1AM and she was miserable. What a way to end a fun night!!! Sure hope she feels good in the morning…Nighty night….
