Monday April 5th 2010

This is going to be a great day I can just feel it.  We don’t have anything planned for today.  I think it is going to be another garage day.  I have the termite spray and I also have termites!  After my reading I decided to get started.  Got my ladder out and climbed up to where the worst was.  Haven’t really noticed but the previous owners left an half bundle of shingles up there.  Well that is right under where my roof leaks.   Not good.  Moved the shingles and there was the nest of termites.  Unfortunately I didn’t have the spray ready.  They were still there when I got back up on the ladder and gave them a good drink of termite juice.  Seems to do a pretty good job.  The didn’t move a lot after that.  I think these were larvae and they didn’t run to far, just back into the tunnels in the wood.   I kept moving the ladder and got the rest of it sprayed.  Hopefully it will kill most of them.   I have a small problem. All my tools are in Mississippi and I don’t even have a hammer so I guess the replacement boards will have to  wait a couple weeks.  My back still hurts but not near as bad as the other day.

We took a nap in the afternoon and when I got up I had a big decision to make…..to make or not to make bread!!  Tomorrow is Keaton and Wesley’s birthday and they kind of like my cinnamon rolls, so, guess it is time to make bread.

This is a 9x13 pan.  Linda frosted them.  Linda also said they tasted like the ones from Thortonberry’s down in Mississippi.  We didn’t eat any of these, I had a small pan with 3 in it.  There wasn’t enough room in this pan for all of them.  We also have to try things before giving them away.  Hate to give stuff to someone that isn’t good!!

I will have to say that the bread turned out pretty good also.  I don’t use a recipe, well, I do but I don’t follow it.  This bread has vanilla pudding in it. Not to bad if I do say so myself.   I made some the other day and we didn’t have any salt so I used garlic pepper salt.  That was quite tasty also, couldn’t taste the garlic though.  I sure have to thank Aunt Virgie for showing me how to make it.  I have a lot of fun doing it.   After we took the rolls to the neighbors we got the telephone number of Daniel’s Mom and Dad and we took a loaf of this bread over to them.  It wasn’t a repayment for the great meal they shared with us, but a “Thank You”.  We had a very nice visit with them again.

We got good news today!!  Well, I had to ask for it, but the title is on the way from out West somewhere so it should be here soon.  Also called the camper place and called Gulfstream and the parts should be in soon, hopefully this year, and the camper will be fixed.  Unfortunately Gulfstream doesn’t have very many “fixit” centers so we took it to Picayune to get it fixed.  Hopefully they will do a good job on it.

I have to ask you a question LaVon,  Why won’t this stay in bold type?   I’m not very observant but I started out in bold type and when I went to another paragraph it went back to normal.  This is a little easier to read but I don’t want to have to change it each paragraph.   Anyway, thanks LaVon for getting the blog started for us…….God Bless…….Joel

RESSURECTION MORNING 4/4/10

HE is Risen!!  HE is Alive!!   What an awesome GOD we have. What an awesome promise HE gave us!   If you don’t know what that promise is, I would be glad to tell you!  HE promised us that if we confess our sins and accept HIM as our Lord and Savior, HE will save us from eternal DEATH!! How about that for a PROMISE?? That my friend is a gift, nothing we can do to earn it, it is a GIFT.         We are going to have a beautiful day today, it is sunny and warm and windy.  Our neighbor, Daniel, asked us to go to church with them this morning.  His Dad is preaching so we took him up on it. He preached at Kewanee Missionary Baptist Church.  I forgot the camera, what a bummer.  I had planned on taking it.   Still got some pictures later though.

This is Don, Terri and their youngest son Marshall.  He preached a very good sermon for Easter Sunday.  Terri asked us over to share a meal with them so we did and we had a great (superb) meal and a great time of fellowship.

This is Daniel, Kiley, Landon and the twins Wesley and Keaton.  They live next door to us (where I use their wifi).  Couldn’t ask for better neighbors.  They have helped us when we are our traveling around.  He takes care of our mail and watches over our property.   Nothing like having a police officer for a neighbor.

This Judson, Terri’s Father and Daniel’s grandfather.  He wasn’t feeling to chipper today but he still gets around pretty good.  Still drives but I don’t think he mows his own lawn.

Tonight  I went to Morehouse to Church.  Had a good sermon for a Sunday night.  We didn’t do much the rest of the night.  I was kind of tired and my back still hurts.  Guess I am really out of shape.  Hopefully it will get better before we start our new job.  Did I mention that yesterday? HUMMM.  Well, we accepted a job in Branson, MO for the summer.  Will start May 15th and be done August 30th which will give us time to get back home and then up to Sterling to go to our Family Reunion which is Labor Day.  Some jobs run past that time so this was good.  We will probably be rich ($) after this (yeah right). Our friends from Safford AZ are already there and working.  We don’t have our camper, hopefully by the end of April we will have that all taken care of.  OK time to go…Bye…

Saturday April 3rd 2010

Today is Saturday and it rained pretty hard last night.  Nothing serious but got a pretty good rain.  I got up about 6:30AM and the clouds were starting to clear out.  Looks like it will be a nice day.  Decided to rummage around the garage again.  Started cleaning off the bench and a few other cluttered spots.  Doesn’t look much better but it was a start.  I found that I have termites in the garage.  Not really fond of termites.  Got my pressure washer out and decided to get a little of the green stuff off the north side of the garage.  Wish that would take care of the termites!!

100_1633

Here’s my pressure washer.  I haven’t used it for about 3 years now.  My neighbor uses it more than I do.  I hurt my back trying to get it started.  I think I twisted the wrong way and pulled a muscle.  I got it started though.

100_1634

This probably doesn’t look like much but the green stuff is gone now and I think the neighbors really appreciate that.  I kind of like pressure washing.

Linda gave me a haircut.  Had to get a picture of that.  I don’t really like getting my hair cut but I sure don’t like it when it gets long.   Thought seriously about letting it grow so they could may a hair piece out of it.  It got to about 3 or 4 inches long and I couldn’t comb it anymore.  Drove me crazy.

100_1638

I fixed lunch today.  Egg, cheese and potato burrito.  Not to bad if I do say so myself.

Had to go to Lowe’s to find some termite spray.  Going to wait until Monday to spray it.  Checked out the price to replace the wood that they have pretty much devoured.  Won’t be to bad, just a little work.  I have a little more to do on it also so we will be able to see in there without turning on the light.  Not a lot of money but a lot of work.

Played a little more golf and bowling, had a good time but my back still hurts and I had to put on a couple of heat patches, try to get it fixed by tomorrow.

This is Daniels house, I go to the garage or his carport to get on wifi.  It works pretty good.  Will go to their church Sunday, maybe I can get a picture of their family.  Going to go to Wal Mart again today and get a few things.  We have been playing the Wii game, bowling and golf.  We aren’t very good at either one but it’s fun.

100_1631

Here is a picture of Linda’s chili.  WOW is it hot.  Linda found some diced tomatoes with habanera peppers.   Didn’t think it would be to bad but it is really hot.  I only could eat 3 bowls.  We will save the rest for another meal.  We are going to watch a little more TV then hit the hay..hey..sounds good to me……

100_1620

Beautiful morning!!  The picture doesn’t really do the color justice.  I took this about 6:30AM.  I think the saying is red in the morning sailor’s fair warning.  It was beautiful all day.  Guess it wasn’t red enough.

Went to town to get a few things and Linda had to look at Wal Mart and she found the Wii.  She got it.  They are a lot of fun, after you finally get it hooked up.   Wouldn’t work on one TV, I think it was to old so we had to put it on our big one.  Had to take some pictures….

100_1622

Here is Linda bowling.  She does pretty good.  Had to play a couple of games.

100_1623

Is that a bowling alley or what??  Linda really likes it, well, I do to, it’s a lot of fun.

It’s been a good day, time to take it easy.

Wednesday March 31st 2010

Another gorgeous day in the neighborhood!   Supposed to get to about 75 today.  I can handle that.  After doing my reading I went out to the garage to rummage around again.   I found Linda’s air pump.  Mine is broken.

100_1606

Yes it’s my bicycle, courtesy of Donna from Lake Pointe.  I pumped up the tires, wiped off the dust and took a picture of myself.  I also went for a ride.  I only fell down once and I can’t blame it on Bruno or the ice.  Guess I am just top heavy.  I rode about a quarter mile and found out that I am really out of shape.  I need to do that more often (without falling).  Traffic on our road it bad though and  I really hate to ride out there.  More rummaging around the garage…

100_1609

This is my riding lawn mower.  Not real happy with it but it does cut the grass.  Isn’t that field in the background pretty?  It is the field of weeds.  Creeping Charlie.  Almost looks like lavender.

100_1615

The lawn doesn’t look to bad except for the bare spot where I had the camper parked.  Need to put a cement pad there I guess.

100_1616

This was our supper.  I found (rummaging around in the closet pantry, a box of Uncle Ben’s Rice Pilaf.  This has been there for awhile.  We also had some frozen turkey broth, HMMMM, yep had to try it.  It wasn’t to bad, not something I wouldn’t want every day but was OK.   We had a piece of Italian bread left also, so I buttered it put garlic powder and Adobe seasoning on it then topped it with cheese, not to bad, then of course a salad.  The bread looked better before I took a bit of it though.

I did get to spend some time outside yesterday.  t was a really nice day.  We opened up the house for some fresh air.  It was 72 in here and I had to put on a sweater, can’t believe I got chilly at 72 degrees.  Maybe I’m getting old.  Will wait for summer though so I can enjoy some really nice hot humid weather……

Tuesday March 30th 2010

Today is going to be a great day!!  Supposed to get up to 68 or 70 and that will be a great change.  Spent time at the neighbors, he has wifi, and sent in an application for a job.  Will see what happens.  I have tried the Corp of Engineers and the tried Ellsworth AFB in SD.  Well, the Corp of Engineers was quite extensive in their requirements for supplies.  Don’t have a truck anymore so I can’t haul my power washer plus all the other supplies, will forget that one.  The AFB in SD sounded really good, I love airplanes, would have been ideal but the information they gave me was really lacking the information I needed.  Not sure if you just go there and say HERE I AM, or if they need some sort of application filled out.  I was in the Army and they had forms for everything (almost).  Well, while I was out I snapped a couple pictures….

100_1601

He is flying right over me  WOW!!!  I love it!

100_1605

Love to watch these guys work.  They really have a talent

100_1602

Just another picture.

The rest of the day was pretty quiet.  I tried to get a few things done out in the garage. Didn’t get a lot accomplished.  Called the kids last night to see how they were doing.  Nice to talk to them once in awhile.  I have to thank them again though for the telephone they gave me for Christmas. It is a pay as you go phone, 1000 minutes a month plus 1000 text messages and some internet time that I haven’t figured out yet.  We have been on the phone for hours it seems to the manufacturer of the camper and places where we were supposed to get it fixed. Haven’t come close to using 1000 minutes in a month and the time goes on to the next month.  I think I have 40 hours right now… 2300 – 2400 minutes.  May have to use it more.  I am sure I would have gone over the 450 anytime minutes I had with Sprint, after the 450 it gets expensive,  thanks again for the phone.

Well, we will watch some TV tonight and then go to bed.  Sounds like a plan to me…..
